Police search for man who left son in chase

Aiken County authorities are searching for a man who they say led police on a car chase with his 4-year-old son in the vehicle.

Kunta Kinta Holley, 31, of Beech Island, is wanted on two counts of criminal domestic violence, child endangerment, failure to stop for blue lights, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to comply and driving under suspension, according to Aiken County Public Safety Lt. David Turno.

On Christmas Day, police responded to a domestic dispute complaint at Charleston Street, Lt. Turno said. When police arrived, Mr. Holley, who was wanted on a previous domestic violence charge, fled and was briefly chased by police. After he crashed into a tree, Mr. Holley ran from the car, leaving the child and a woman in the back seat, Lt. Turno said. Both had minor injuries.

Anyone with information on Mr. Holley's whereabouts is asked to call Aiken Public Safety at (803) 642-7620 or Crimestoppers of the Midlands at (888) CRIME-SC.

Woman shot in standoff is charged

A 32-year-old Hephzibah woman who was shot in a Christmas standoff involving a 5-year-old hostage was booked into the Richmond County jail Tuesday.

Georgette Reid had been receiving treatment at Medical College of Georgia Hospital after being shot by police in their effort to rescue the 5-year-old. The incident reportedly occurred after the child's mother tried to break off a relationship with Ms. Reid.

Ms. Reid, of the 2200 block of Sunny Day Drive, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, kidnapping, false imprisonment, possession of a knife during a crime and cruelty to children. According to a sheriff's office report, she is accused of taking an 8-inch-long kitchen knife and causing a 1-inch cut to Latoya Lewis's forehead after locking Ms. Lewis's son in his closet.

Ms. Lewis was able to escape and call 911, but Ms. Reid is accused of then taking Ms. Lewis's son hostage and causing a 2-inch cut to his throat. Richmond County SWAT shot Ms. Reid once in the upper chest and rescued the boy. Ms. Lewis and her son have since been released from the hospital.
