i think i know how Garth Brooks was informed, but if i said who it was that told him i could be just speculating, but i will soon find out and i will let every one know who the decent person it was who informed Mr Brooks.
A woman and her 13-year-old son being treated at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta got an unexpected visit from a famous singer last week.
Country performer Garth Brooks was at the Augusta center Tuesday after hearing the story of Karin and Connor McKemey.
"He came in by himself very quietly," burn center spokeswoman Beth Frits confirmed Saturday.
She said he even left a guitar for Connor, who remained in critical condition Saturday. "It was just a very sweet thing."
Because of Connor's condition, Mr. Brooks was unable to visit in his room, but he did meet with Mrs. McKemey and some of the center's workers, the spokeswoman said.
It wasn't clear exactly how Mr. Brooks learned of Mrs. McKemey and her son.
Ms. Frits said the patients were brought to the burn center Dec. 21 after being injured in an eruption of an outdoor fireplace at their home in Tega Cay, S.C.
George McKemey, Connor's dad and Mrs. McKemey's husband, was serving in Iraq but was able to return to visit his family at the burn center by Monday, Ms. Frits said.
"This story, it's very touching," she said.
Mrs. McKemey was discharged from the burn center Saturday.
