CLEARWATER, S.C. - Mrs. Renate Schardt Lacey, 69, of Andover Drive, Clearwater, SC, who was known to everyone as Oma, peacefully passed away from a long battle with cancer December 23, 2008, surrounded by her family. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel. Pastor Kenneth E. Young, Sr. and Pastor Steve Norsworthy officiating. Interment in Pineview Memorial Park. Mrs. Lacey was a native of Germany, having made the Clearwater-North Augusta area her home for the past 46 years. She was the daughter of the late George and Martha Schardt. Her mother was a concert pianist and her father was a fine musician. At the age of five World War II commenced causing her family to flee to West Germany. Upon graduation from high school she worked as a Nanny for several years before her marriage and moving to the United States in her early 20's. With her determination and strong will she taught herself English through television and her children as they gained their education. She was an incredible mother, grandmother and friend to all, who could be seen playing with her children and grandchildren constantly and was the "Uno Queen". Having a positive attitude and never a negative thought was one of her greatest attributes, this even carried through her long illness until the end of her life. Everyone who knew her had nothing but high praise for her and considered her incredible. Many enjoyed a visit with a cup of her 8 o'clock coffee! Survivors include her beloved husband, Dean Carver; three sons and daughters-in-law, Pete Lacey and Bert and Tanya Lacey, all of North Augusta, Chuck and Julie Lacey, Evans; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Bobby Poston, Jacksonville, FL, Deana and Chris Vaughn, Aiken; nine grandchildren, Brittany Lacey, Ashley Poston, Kyle Poston, Jeremy Lacey, Devin Lacey, Brent Lacey, Madison Lacey, Blaire Vaughn and Carver Vaughn; two brothers, George Schardt and Hans Hofmann, Germany.
