AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Clara J. Crenshaw, wife of the late Alonza Cluese Crenshaw, of Lumpkin Rd., entered into rest on Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at the Medical College of Georgia. Funeral services will be held from Burns Memorial United Methodist Church this Friday, December 26, 2008, at 2:00 P.M., with the Reverend Bill Burch officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mrs. Crenshaw was the daughter of the late Joseph T. and Vela Weathersbee Jones. As a charter member of Green Meadows Country Club she served on the C.S.R.A. Board of Directors in various capacities for a total of 15 years and member of the C.S.R.A.-WGA since the first year it began, in 1961. She played in and contributed to the C.S.R.A.-WGA for almost 50 years and was just this year, in October, awarded a very prestigious lifetime membership in the organization. There are only two ladies that have received this honor. She was the current recipient and representative to the Board for the Green Meadows Country Club. She previously served as Vice President of the Georgia Senior Women's Golf Association. She and her sister Josie Usry were founding members of the GA Senior Couples. She played in the Bionic Tournament since she received her artificial knees for numerous years. Mrs. Crenshaw was also a member of the Fleming Lions Club where she held many offices and was the owner and operator of Clara's Beauty Shop since 1954. Mrs. Crenshaw was a school bus driver for twenty years and was instrumental in securing retirement benefits for the Georgia School Bus Driver's Association. She was a charter member of Burns Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and the Carolyn Johnson Circle of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Crenshaw was preceded in death by her son, Richard T. 'Ricky' Crenshaw; and her sisters Elma Buck and Josie Usry. Survivors include her son, Curtis Ray Crenshaw, Sr. of Augusta; daughter, Connie Crenshaw Freeman of Beech Island; grandchildren, Kevin Freeman, Lonnie and his wife Tammy Crenshaw, Curtis Ray, Jr., and his wife Heather Crenshaw; great grandchildren, Kayla and Hunter Crenshaw; step great grandchildren, Danny Rogers and Kristen Boone. Pallbearers will be, Bobby Markwalter, Chuck Ford, Bobby Mills, Wayne Masters, Gene Cross and Rodney Crenshaw. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Fellowship Class and the Carolyn Johnson Circle of Burns Memorial United Methodist Church and the Fleming Lions Club. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Burns Memorial United Methodist Church, 2372 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, GA 30906.
