Both parties demonstrate corruption

  • Follow Letters

This letter is in response to P.J. Rodgers' letter "Earmarks don't pass the smell test" (Dec. 23).

Having read the article about the inferior contamination kits, I share Mr. Rodgers' anger. However, Sen. Specter, contrary to what Mr. Rodgers states, is not a Democrat; he is a Republican.

Sen. Specter received the largest "kickback" of all in that deal, which is beside the point. The point is that Republicans and Democrats alike are involved in the "You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" atmosphere in Washington, D.C.

Unfortunately, corruption is not specific to any one political party.

More of this behavior needs to be made public so we can all vote accordingly.

Time has proven that many of

Time has proven that many of the voters in this country wouldn't believe anything even if it jumped up in front of them and yelled "Now do you see?"....It is a common sense attitude Heidi that should be a given but since popularity, money and greed hold sway don't hold your breath...Corruption is the norm for both parties not the anomaly...The voters simply look for the politician who promises the world and then some...And so it goes on and on and on...

You can't please all the

You can't please all the people all the time, and politics being dirty and full of corruption is nothing new...Matter of fact politics isn't as nasty as it used to be, in the past they openly took bribes and aligned themselves with whomever could bring them themoney, regardless of values...

Motorman - Politics is

Motorman - Politics is nastier than it used to be. Now you find it hard to tell all the politicians on the take. I assume it is all of them and then let someone disprove it on whoever they can.

A society can rule itself

A society can rule itself until it learns it can access the public treasury through corrupt politicians. When over half of the society votes itself access to the treasury, as we have just done, the society and its' government begin to crumble. This situation is not party specific. It relates more to the individual holding office and the reasons for him/her being there.

If only Democrats benefitted

If only Democrats benefitted monetarily from political corruption, they would all run unopposed in general elections.

When Republicans are caught,

When Republicans are caught, they do the right thing and resign. When Democrats are caught, Eliot Spitzer being an exception, they fight and either are voted out or get enough of their buddies to support them to stay in office. Case in point...Bill Clinton, Gary Conditt, Tom Foley, Dan Rostenkowski, Barney Frank, Jim Wright, and now, William Jefferson and Rod Blageovich. Oh, let's not forget a Democrat who left office but still feels comfortable lying through his teeth, John Edwards. But, you won't find fat Rosie O'Donnell or Joy Behar ranting about them on "The View." What a @%#&$ up society we live in!

Is "CH" an alias for Rip Van

Is "CH" an alias for Rip Van Winkle? Since WHEN "Republicans do the right thing and resign, When they are caught"? First of all, there are all kinds of degrees of "getting caught". No politician runs from their position the moment anybody points a finger at them. They ALL try to hold on if they think they might beat the rap. But as for Republicans being quick to resign, were you out to lunch when Nixon refused to give up until impeachment was staring him in the face. Did Republicans presidents Reagan, Bush Sr. or Bush Jr., or V.P. Cheney, ever resign? Or did Republicans Rumsfeld, or Gonzales, or Ashcroft or Senator Sevens go willingly? Or did they wait to be shoved out the door? Google "Republican corruption and immorality" and read the 2nd site, where I have published the best catalogue of G.O.P. corruption on the web and where no Republican has met my challenge to produce a similar catalogue of Democratic corruption, because both parties are NOT equally corrupt. (I must say however, that there's a lot of corruption among southern conservative Demcrats who haven't yet made the transition to the conservative party where they belong, i.e. the corrupt conservative G.O.P.)

jack.... Remember GWB sold

jack.... Remember GWB sold our port security rights to a foreign country without Congressional approval. Lets not forget he specifically said his administration had nothing to with outing Valerie Plame, but he orchestrated the whole thing according Scotter Libby's testimony. Then used his authority to commute Libby's sentence to keep him quiet!!
