"When I was a little boy, I loved food. When I grew up, I loved food even more," said Nick, an Evans High School senior.
He got his cooking start when he was 13, with the help of his grandmother.
"My grandma taught me everything that I know about cooking. The first thing I cooked was stuffed macaroni and cheese. It was delicious!"
Nick, known as Chef Niq, brings samples of his dishes to school and serves them to friends. The treats don't last long, because Nick is quickly bombarded by hungry students.
He enjoys cooking anything from dishes such as grilled salmon served with sauteed mushrooms and broccoli to his strawberry fantasy cake. Nick also enjoys cooking any dish that contains chicken.
He's taking the culinary class at Evans and was recently accepted at Johnson & Wales University, where he plans to major in culinary arts and food service management.
"When it comes to cooking, I love making something out of nothing," he said.
