AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Julia Hill Barrett, 86, wife of the late Mr. Alexander B. Barrett, entered into rest on Saturday, December 13, 2008. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Rev. Gerald Ragan celebrant. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Mrs. Barrett was a life long resident of Augusta. She attended Georgetown Visitation College for 2 years and graduated from Augusta College. She was a member of the Augusta Country Club, the Junior League of Augusta, Gateway Garden Club, Sand Hills Garden Club, Garden Club of America, Summerville Association, Historic Augusta, and a board member of the Gertrude Herbert Art Institute. She was a member of the Colonial Dames and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also involved in the gardens at Pendleton King Park and the gardens at the Appleby Library. Family members include one brother, James Tobin Hill (Barbara) of Summerville, SC; two sons, Alexander B. Barrett, Jr.(Judith) of Myrtle Beach, SC and F. Madison Barrett, II (Marsha) of Augusta, GA; two daughters, Helen Barrett Anderson of Augusta, GA, and Laura Tobin Barrett (Joseph Newman) of Bluffton, SC; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Mike Gatch, Bill Huie, Albert Gary, Reed Gary, David Hill, and Todd Mahon. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Barrett's grandchildren.
