Man turns himself in after eatery shooting
NEWBERRY --- A former Newberry College basketball player has been charged with assault and battery with intent to kill after being accused of firing a shot at people going into a restaurant. One person was wounded in the shooting.
Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said in a news release that 22-year-old Terrance Maurice Spillers of North Charleston turned himself in Saturday afternoon after the early morning shooting.
Police had no information about whether he had an attorney.
Sheriff Foster said one person was shot in the back, but the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
Sheriff Foster said the shooting happened at a Waffle House shortly after a fight involving about 40 people at a graduation party for Mr. Spillers.
A security guard broke up the fight and the party with pepper spray.
Man missing for three weeks found in river
JOHNSONVILLE --- South Carolina Natural Resources Department officials say they have recovered the body of a 51-year-old Conway man who had been missing for more than three weeks.
Agency spokesman Lt. Robert McCullough said Robert Canteen's body had been discovered Friday afternoon in the Lynches River near Johnsonville.
The body was about 100 yards from where agency searchers had found the missing seat from his boat.
Lt. McCullough says the Florence County coroner will determine the cause of death, but it appeared that Mr. Canteen had been in the water the whole time he was missing.
Mr. Canteen was reported missing by his wife Nov. 19 after he did not return from a fishing outing.
Mr. Canteen's boat was found later that day.
