Tough year leaves family trying to catch up on bills

  • Follow Metro

A mother of three in Gibson, Ga., hopes some assistance at Christmas can improve a difficult year for her family.

"My brother unexpectedly died in his sleep in March," she writes.

"We found out he had a heart condition. Daddy got very sick in April, then passed away in July. My husband had to miss a lot of work to help me take care of him, and because of that, we got behind on our bills. Now we're trying to get caught up. That leaves little for Christmas for our three boys. We would greatly appreciate help."

The Augusta Chronicle 's Empty Stocking Fund has helped people in need for 78 years. Last year, the charity raised a record-breaking $123,000, which went to more than 1,776 families.
