School system property bids accepted online

Let the bidding begin.

Prospective buyers can now begin bidding on the Richmond County school system's surplus property by going to www.rcboe.org and clicking on the link under system news.

The Web site contains information on how to bid and information on each school, including the location, minimum bid and photos.

This is the first time the system has sold real estate through a competitive bid process online, board attorney Pete Fletcher said.

Bids start at the appraised value, and the highest bid will get the property. Bidding online and on paper ends at 3 p.m. Jan. 28.

Interested bidders must register and answer questions to prequalify, he said. That includes showing that they have financing available to purchase the property. The Web site also has information on Historic Augusta Inc., which can assist potential buyers in obtaining tax credits and other financial incentives to preserve properties.

Open houses will be held 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday and Jan. 8. Properties can also be viewed by request during other business hours.

The board is selling the A.C. Griggs School, old Sue Reynolds Elementary, Floyd Graham School, old John S. Davidson School, Martha Lester School, old Hornsby Elementary School and Regency Exchange 8.

The board is banking on selling at least $1.5 million to balance the current budget.

GM1987 did you really expect any real information from the RCBOE web site? And this is the center of education for the Augusta area. I really wonder where they advertised the properties for sale, was it on their internet site or did they advertise nationally? But then again if the advertisement was outside the CSRA then maybe the special people wouldn't have been able to pick up the properties at a STEAL?

The link works just fine. Maybe someone needs to learn how to follow directions.
