Police search for man in attempted robbery
Police were searching Friday for a man they say tried to rob a Martinez store.
The man entered the Dollar General store at 210 Baston Road just before 9 a.m. and pointed a semi-automatic pistol at a cashier.
He demanded that the cashier open the register but fled before the employee could comply, Columbia County sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris said.
The robbery suspect was described as black, about 6 feet tall, medium build wearing a red, black and tan jacket, a black hooded sweatshirt, a white collared shirt and black pants.
He was last seen on foot headed into the wooded area behind the store.
A sheriff's office K-9 unit was unable to immediately locate the suspect. The man did not get any money and no one was injured, Capt. Morris said.
