Letters to the editor do not nessesarily represent those of of the Chronicle. That's why it's called an OPINION. Quit your whining.
How appropriate the publishing of Robert Nazarette's letter, ("Bush tying our hands on his way out") with his narrow-minded view of the situation in Iraq on the same page with Charles Krauthammer's incisive piece on the political impact of a possibly democratic state of Iraq in the epicenter of middle-eastern Islamic fundamentalism. Good work, Chronicle !
Terrence Bedell, Appling

you get him, lady.
Many are confused by the LTEs and editorials. A LTE represents the opinion of the writer of the letter and the editorial represents the opinion of the editorialist. Neither necessarily represents the opinion of the Chronicle. Complimenting the posting of opposing opinions isn't whining.
Patricia, if you don't agree with palomino you are whining.
Wha-a-a-a
If you think that Iraq will continue to reamain democratic you are sorely mistaken. That is unless you're willing to leave American troops there indefinitely. The Shia have already said they are going to disarm (or attempt to) the Sunnis. Invading Iraq has caused the middle east to become even more unstable in the long run. While Saddam was a brutal dictator, he kept the factions from civil war. He also kept Iran in check. GHWB knew this. Those are some of the reasons he didn't pursue him after the first Gulf War. When we leave, and we eventually will have to, you will see the Shia in Iran (Iran 89% Shia, Iraq 60%) aid the Shia in Iraq destroy other groups and create a theocaracy similar to that in Iran. Thanks W.
Yeah TechLover, we should never defend ourselves because someone has promised to not act right. We should never try to make any improvement or create an atmosphere where an improvement can prosper because someone said they wouldn't accept the change. And we should never take action that doesn't show instant success.Good plan. I hope you're king real soon.
I read this LTE as saying that the Chronicle did well in placing Nazarete's typical meaningless dross next to Krauthammer's piece, which was an effective rebuttal to the sort of general ignorance that was given specific voice with Nazarete's ridiculous, pouting drivel. IOW, I read Bedell's LTE as a sincere attaboy to the Chronicle...am I wrong?
you got it right johnsmith, as did most of those that instead chose to act as if the LTE were confusing.
Techy, did you borrow Cain's crystal ball concerning Iraq? Did GHWb confide in you as to why he didn't topple SH? Gee, I though it was becase Powell had told him that all military objectives had been met.
techlover is exactly right jack.whether you liked saddam or not he kept things straight in that region.he gassed people? how do you know? because the us gov't said so?the same gov't that aided both nations iran and iraq when it benifitted us?the same gov't that started out after patsy binladen and came back to iraq, which was the plan way before 911.the same gov't who confiscates film and video from the pentagon and refuses to show the folks who paid for that pentagon the pictures of this so called flight 77 mystery?oh you dummies they have you guys so blind, you don't know whether you're coming or going.how tragic.
PT: Iraq did not attack us. He couldn't fly a helicopter without it being shot down. His WMDs (that WE sold him)were destroyed after the first gulf war. Judging by the number of democracies in the region (Israel,Turkey, and to some extent Lebanon), it doesn't seem to be somethimg that catches on readily. Unless we stay there forever, the fighting between the Shia, Sunni, and Kurds will remain.
