Jamie Champion is one of many Augusta Lynx fans who have had a hard time living with the idea that Augusta's hockey team no longer exists.
The flood of memories from the past 10 years hit home again Friday, as Champion sifted through the remaining Lynx merchandise at Designworks Graphics in Martinez.
"I've been a fan since their first game in '98," he said. "I actually proposed to my wife center ice. Now I see this stuff. I want it for the memories."
Champion was one of many Lynx fans searching for a jersey after Kyle Daniel and his family, who run Designworks Graphics, slashed prices on all Lynx merchandise.
"They've been coming in all day long -- steady all day," Daniel said as he watched three groups of customers, two of them former season-ticket holders, browse his showroom. "Everybody's looking for jerseys and pucks, shirts and hoodies. We've almost sold out all of our blankets."
Daniel and his family sold Lynx merchandise at home games at James Brown Arena and said the team's demise will certainly hurt their business this winter. He had some success liquidating the remaining merchandise when he began selling it at 50 percent off Friday morning, but he still had 150 Lynx foam fingers.
"We're just going to keep it on sale 'til it's all gone," he said. "A lot of people are coming in looking for Christmas gifts."
That's what Linda Trowbridge and Matt Crawford, a pair of Lynx season-ticket holders for all 11 seasons, were searching for. Even though their seats in Section 124 of James Brown Arena will be empty this winter, they'll still wear Lynx gear.
"My son lives in Atlanta, and they go to Gwinnett (Gladiators) games," Trowbridge said. "So if we go visit and go to a Gwinnett game, we'll be there in our Lynx jerseys."
Finding new jerseys is affecting former Lynx players, too. Two already have earned a promotion out of the team's demise.
Forward Patrick Bordeleau (Albany River Rats) and goaltender Mike Brodeur (Rochester Americans) have signed with teams in the American Hockey League.
