A long dusk, no dawn and a threat from within

  • Follow Letters

The recent election brings to mind a remark made by a South Vietnamese man the day Saigon fell to the communists.

He said, "Today there comes a dusk from which there will be no dawn."

I'm also reminded of the threat of the communists during the Cold War years. They promised to take us over from within.

They have just made giant strides.

God help us.

Merle Burkholder, Augusta

I can picture Merle Burkholder in 1960, riding in is 59 pickup with the rest of the boys in hoods looking for some uppity negro to teach a lesson to...Well, you just got taught a lesson, your era has passed...Stop sulking and either hop on the train or continue to stand on the tracks of progress and become a bumper ornament...

Anyone familiar with

Anyone familiar with scripture or God would understand God doesn't need man, nor does he wait for anyone...He may be unfamiliar to you and Merle Burkholder, but don't put that absurd curse on the nation because it shows how unchristian and fake your religous beliefs are...."I didn't get my way come Nov 4th, so God is upset too"...Pfff...

There you go again - why do

There you go again - why do some of you assume that anyone who is against Obama is a racist? I don't recall anyone calling any of you racists because you didn't believe in or follow Bush. No you weren't racists (stupid Democrats maybe...LOL). You disagreed with policy which is the same as some of us are doing now. So why do you think it is OK for you to act a certain way but no one else can?

What I find so funny is

What I find so funny is people like Burkholder, these so called christians is how illogical and irrational their beliefs are..When they are satisfied they spout "God is always right, God has spoken"; but when they don't get what they want, then it's "pray that God helps us, God is angry"...I'm confused, because last time I checked God never made a mistake, and all things that happen are part of God's will, at least that is what I was taught....And christians wonder why people are cynical about religion or so called christians..You keep changing the goal post, and changing the rules...If Mr. Burkholder wants to pray for something he needs to pray he doesn't burst hell wide open when he lands smack dab in the middle of it, or pray the devil has a air condition day for all his best tenants...

Read your Bible with an open

Read your Bible with an open heart and mind "ThatOne"...Christians don't hate the sinner we just hate the sin...As all of us are sinners the only way to alter the end of this life would be to accept Christ as your personal Savior and prepare to walk daily with Him as your friend, guide and Comforter...The rules are the same...It is people who tend to move the goal post...God has only one set of rules and when they are broken enough without an ounce or less of repentance we can expect retribution to alter our path...That is just the way it is...

That one I understand exactly

That one I understand exactly what your saying. I'm a Christian and I voted for Obama. (although I know some would question my beliefs because gasp...I voted for Obama) Regardless of the outcome of the election I realized God is still on the throne. When things don't go my way I know God knows best and I will rely and trust on him regardless. Am I disappointed when things don't go my way yes, because I'm still human but because what I know I continue to trust Him and not question things. If an election shakes your relationship with God then I would quesiton your beliefs in the first place.

"There you go again - why do

"There you go again - why do some of you assume that anyone who is against Obama is a racist?" Well, it's simply, really, factchecker. I've been voting in elections since Carter beat Ford, and I've never heard such a hyperbolic, alarmist, Apocalyptic reaction to a Democrat's election. Listen, Obama is no more socialist or Communist (not really the same, btw) than any other presidential candidate/Pres. Elect. Bush has been an authoritarian nightmare, stripping us of liberties and expanding his powers unConstitutionally, and I don't hear you comparing him to Hitler. So, ask yourself: What's left? What makes Obama different from everyone else? Duh.

Ah, yes..."the slaughter of

Ah, yes..."the slaughter of the innocents". Why are fundamentalists more concerned with fetuses than live children, and the next world rather than this one? If you really cared about "the innocents", you'd vote for people with different policies toward the sick, the elderly, and children.

1. Hopefully mental health

1. Hopefully mental health care will be improved in the United States so that Mr Burkholder can get something to help his paranoid delusions. 2. Neither Republicans nor evangelical Christians have the exclusive right to define what either Christianity or any other religious belief is. As a Christian who grew up in a moderate church out west, I find it a great personal offense to read many of these definitions of what a "good Christian" should be doing in the way of voting.

Christian please don't start

Christian please don't start any belief bashing with me. I only seek the approval of one person and it definitely isn't you. Despite your holier than thou attitude your no closer to heaven than I am and the fact you make comments like that verifies my suspicsions. If you felt so strongly about me voting for Obama then pray for me deliverance or that I would see the light rather than make thoughtless, unproductive comments.

Your emotions concerning my feelings towards you midwestern are neither here nor there...:-) Now how someone feels towards murder is something else entirely different and that goes for those who profess to believe in God and Jesus Christ and then marches to the tune of "Let us all march down and kill the babies as they are just a bloody mass of flesh Hooray"...

midwesterntransplant, I

midwesterntransplant, I believe in the right to choose. I choose to believe that a man who votes to MURDER survivors of abortion, and is on the record as supporting such acts, is guilty of murder and should never be in a position to enfluence the moral beliefs of our young persons. Look at the casual "hook-ups" that became common in the post Clinton years after he said that oral sex is not sex. And having read Das Kapital I choose not to vote for a candidate who is the most radical left wing socialist I ever heard. Also there are many "Christians" running around today who would never pass the test Yeshua (Jesus) gave for identifying a follower of the Messiah, that one show love for one another. Ad hominem attacks do not show love, the kind required for a brother, for others. In the thirties the German people freely elected a man who held the views Mr Obama expressed in this campaign. The ultimate result of that election was World War II. The people now flocking to Mr Obama to join his administrations are the very ones who called him unfit for the office of President. Oh, and I am not a Republican, I am a conservative in all areas o f my life.

Bill Clinton did not help

Bill Clinton did not help further erode the moral fabric of society. If the president had so much power as to lead people to act recklessly and irresponsibly then GWB with his conservative values should have had the opposite effect. Although, he had his issues too (weapons of mass destruction, anyone?).

If people online by now don't

If people online by now don't know for a fact christian134 is NOT a born again Christian from all of her attributes, post, and conversations here and can't see it's the complete opposite of what a true believer is they will never know. Just ungodly, unholy, unjust, unrighteous, wavering, pretend saint. God deliver her, the tongue is an unruly evil.
