I would like to suggest that you instigate a campaign to discover how many of your readers agree with the clearly stated remarks in the letter Nov. 22 from C.W. Lewis of Thomson ("Things come down to common sense") about this country's lack of common sense!
This country needs another revolution that champions the principle that people are responsible for their own actions! Many of us, myself included, are spoiled rotten by our plethora of possessions.
It's time we woke up! We need God in our lives, not things!
Katherine L. Beck, Augusta
There are the "wants' and there are the "needs". We need the wisdom to know the difference.
Of course Americans are spoiled rotten. What they want...they want and they want it NOW! Bad old George Bush.
dani What this got to do with Bad old George Bush???? Doesn't make sense to me> Explain yourself! SusieQ
susie. Not trying to make sense. Just wanted to beat the Bush bashers to it.
dani-- Understand now. THANKS!!!SusieQ
Totally agree with you coalminerpa! Palomino9, that should be Oh God with a capital G please.
I'll bet a 2 dollar bill that having god in our lives wouldn't stem the desires to have, and have, and have until were head over heels in debt. Having a god hasn't appeaerd to me to make much difference in the material possessions owned by most of the christians I've known. GGpap.
It's not the possessions that God is worried about but our attitudes towards them. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.
The things added are spiritual things not material. If we would take care of our hearts by putting God first in them, material things would not have such a stronghold on us. No.....we will never be able to rid ourselves of selfish desires completely. Those who are Christian realize salvation is not an event but a journey, It's His desire for us to become more like Him as the days go by and that is an impossible task without Jesus in your Heart and Life.
There's nothing wrong with wanting things- as long as you have the money to pay for them. There's going to be another crisis when all the baby boomers retire and try to pay outrageous credit card debts and mortgages with Social Security, too.
