DETROIT --- Marian Hossa scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period and the Detroit Red Wings held on to beat the Anaheim Ducks 2-1 Monday night.

Johan Franzen also scored for Detroit and Chris Osgood made 15 saves.

Chris Kunitz scored Anaheim's goal and Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 37 shots before being removed after two periods. Jonas Hiller made eight saves in the third period.

Hossa got the winner 1:48 into the third period when he beat Hiller from the right circle to convert a two-on-one pass from Dan Cleary. It was Hossa's 14th goal and the second consecutive Red Wings' win in which he broke a third period tie.

BLUE JACKETS 3, CANUCKS 2

In Columbus, Ohio, Kristian Huselius scored off Rick Nash's blue-collar assist with 4:44 left and Columbus beat the Vancouver Canucks, giving the Blue Jackets their first win this season after allowing the first goal.

Columbus came in 0-6-3 when the opponent scored first, becoming the last team in the NHL to win after falling behind 1-0.

Rookie Steve Mason improved to 6-2-1 in his first professional season, stopping 29 shots. His best save came with his glove on the ice on a shot by Kyle Wellwood, who had a goal.

PREDATORS 2, SABRES 0

In Buffalo, N.Y., Pekka Rinne made 30 saves for his first career shutout, Jason Arnott snapped a tie in the third period and the Nashville Predators beat the Buffalo Sabres.

J.P. Dumont also scored and had an assist for the Predators, who won for the third time in five games.

Ryan Miller made 25 saves for the Sabres, who lost their second in a row, snapping Miller's personal three-game winning streak.

AVALANCHE 6, WILD 5

In St. Paul, Minn., Paul Stastny had two goals and an assist, and the low-scoring Colorado Avalanche broke out for a win over the Minnesota Wild.

Marek Svatos, David Jones, T.J. Hensick and Milan Hejduk also scored for Colorado, which entered the game as the second lowest scoring team in the Western Conference.

The Avs had a 20-6 shots on goal advantage midway through the second period and capitalized on several Wild turnovers and miscues to build an insurmountable lead.
