Calvin J. Chalker (GIBSON, Ga.)

GIBSON, Ga. - Mr. Calvin J. Chalker, 73, of Hawkins Ave., entered into rest Thursday, November 27, 2008, at the University Hospital, Augusta. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, at Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church, with Rev. Al Kurtz, officiating. Interment will be in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery, Gibson, Ga. Calvin was a native of Glascock County and lived here all of his life. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church, an Army Veteran, and was retired from Milliken and Company, Thomson, Ga. He is survived by his son, Joey (Diane) Chalker of Thomson, Ga.; two grandsons, Shane (Terri) Chalker and Kevin (Hope) Chalker; one brother, Mr. Donald (Becky) Chalker of Lincolnton; and one sister, Mrs. Ruth Reese of Augusta; and a special friend, Mrs. Zylphia Reese. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Brewster and Maude Sheppard Chalker. Pallbearers are Shane Chalker, Kevin Chalker, Ronnie Wood, Jimmy Newsome, Lynn Peaster, and James Bowen. The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to any special charity or church. Sheppard Funeral Home, Gibson, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.
