BLACKVILLE, S.C. - Funeral service for Joseph James 'Joe' Bates, 74, of Blackville, will be held three p.m., Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Elko, SC with the Rev. Floyd Dukes officiating, interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m., Saturday, November 29, at Folk Funeral Home, Williston. Mr. Joe died Thursday at his home. Born in Barnwell County, he was a son of the late James E. and Louise Carroll Bates. He was a graduate of Clemson University, a farmer and Safemark dealer. He was former president of the Blackville Farmer's Market, the Watermelon Board, the Barnwell County Farm Bureau and the Ellenton Agricultural Club. He was a member of the FSA board, Blackville Masonic Lodge # 63 and Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. He was married to the late Bobbie Jean Collum Bates. Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Martha 'Betty' Bates of Blackville, brothers, Rev. Allen E. (Nancy) Bates of Etowah, Tennessee, Bruce O. (Linda) Bates of Williston, Robert A.
