Woman requests help for granddaughter, herself

  • Follow Metro

A 64-year-old Jackson woman with health problems has been having financial difficulty, but that has not stopped her from pitching in to care for one of her granddaughters.

"I need food and clothing for both of us, especially for the child," she wrote. "I will appreciate anything I can get, and I am unable to work because of health problems."

Assistance from The Augusta Chronicle 's Empty Stocking Fund has helped families like this one for 78 years. Last year, the charity raised a record-breaking $123,000, helping more than 1,776 families.

64 yo woman with health problems ? She should be getting social security and medicare or medicaid. Why the big concern at Christmas ? She and that child lives 24/7 365 days a year. If this letter makes you want to give to the empty stocking funk you need to think about this situation further. I bet that the people who run the empty stocking fund do not even check to verify people true needs. Non profits go a long way to enable drug addicts and alcoholics. If you wish to bring joy to the less fortunate give to those slightly below your economic standing. That way you can be assured that they have the education and cultural background to appreciate it. support www.honkgongaugustaga.org
