HARLEM, Ga. - Entered into rest at her residence on Sunday, November 23, 2008, Mrs. Martha Robins Purvis, (82), went home to be with the Lord and to be reunited with her husband, the late Roy Franklin Purvis. Born in Union Point, GA, Mrs. Purvis spent her life in the Augusta area where she was a secretary for Peter Knox III at Merryland and Investment Co. and later an executive secretary for Dr. Roy Witherington, Chief of Urology at MCG. After retirement, she volunteered for St. Joseph Hospital's Ladies Auxiliary. Martha and her husband were avid golf fans and could be found every year at the Masters Golf Tournament reuniting with friends from around the country. Martha loved to bake, cross-stitch, and cruise the Caribbean. She brought smiles to the faces of young patients on the children's wing of MCG with her handmade sugar Easter eggs. Mrs. Purvis will be greatly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Clara and Ronald Gurley of Harlem, her four grandchildren Becky Holley, Mike Gurley, Mark Gurley, and Chris Gurley, her nine great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her niece, Helen Bergenstock of Marietta, GA and four very dear friends Sandy McKetrick, Carol Downs, Glenda McDaniel and Jennifer Smalls. At her request, Mrs. Purvis will be cremated and her remains will be interred with her late husband at a graveside service at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at 2:00pm with the Rev.
