Find a hot look for cold days of winter

As cold weather finally settles over the Southeast, the opportunity to break out winter coats, boots and scarves has arrived.

Teens who keep an eye open for fashion trends are especially excited for this season. Some of the bigger trends this year include frontier style, and incorporating checks, tweeds, velvet, shearling, fur and plaids, according to the All Women's Talk Web site.

This style is popular for guys and gals, showcasing a minimalist and simplistic style. Tripp Calloway, a junior at Augusta Preparatory Day School, has made his opinion on the topic clear.

"I'm flannel-ing it up," he said. "I'll also stick with the typical black and brown corduroys and khakis."

According to fashion.about.com, this fall and winter's top trends include military coats and the romantic style, such as ruffles, floral prints and velvet.

Caroline Burgreen, a junior at Augusta Prep, feels partial to these trends.

"This season, I really like plaids, flat boots and deep purples, as well as keeping the classic winter colors in mind. Also, I'm watching out for winter florals and booties," she said.

For many girls, tights have become a wardrobe staple. Many TV shows such as the style-setting Gossip Girl feature opaque tights in all colors, from black to fuchsia. Menswear has also made a showing on the women's runway this season, as seen in vests, blazers, tailored pants and male-inspired Oxford heels.

Whether or not you are fashion forward, one thing is necessary to embrace the cold weather: winter outerwear. For Ryan Goss, a junior at Augusta Prep, that entails "throwing on a hoodie and remembering to wear socks."
