Ex-coach files suit over pay

Former Augusta Colts head coach Bubba Diggs has filed suit against the team's co-owner and general manager, John Sisson, for breach of contract.

"I'm not looking to do anything but get the money due to me," Diggs said. "It's strictly what I worked for."

The civil suit, which was filed in Columbia County Magistrate Court on Friday, is for $14,058. Sisson confirmed that he received a summons Monday morning but would not comment further.

"The official word is no comment. It's in my best interest to let things come out in court," he said.

Diggs and Sisson split ways this past summer after a dispute arose concerning the length of Diggs' contract. Diggs said his contract was good through the end of the year. Sisson denied the claim, and neither party has produced an actual signed contract.

The Colts will not play in the 2009 American Indoor Football Association season. The team plans to return in 2010 and hired a new coach, Athens resident Cedric Roach, two weeks ago.

Diggs said he has received out-of-town offers to coach other indoor football teams but turned them down to remain in Augusta with his family.
