A Richmond County sheriff's deputy shot a man at Captain D's on Wrightsboro Road on Monday night, according to a department spokesman.

Lt. Scott Peebles confirmed the shooting at the restaurant at 3166 Wrightsboro Road. He would not give any details, saying only, "The officer was not the person shot."

Police responded to an armed robbery call at the location at 7:47 p.m., according to a sheriff's dispatcher.

Lt. Peebles said the case has been turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The man was taken to an area hospital, and his condition was not known.

Authorities from the sheriff's office and GBI crime scene units spent hours interviewing workers from the restaurant and taking photographs inside the restaurant.

GBI Special Agent Pat Morgan declined to provide the names of the person shot or the deputy involved, but he did confirm that an armed robbery was taking place at the time of the shooting.
