AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Virginia Lee Costigan, 89, much loved mother and grandmother, entered into rest Friday, November 14, 2008, at University Hospital in Augusta, GA. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 21, 2008, at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church in Augusta, GA, where she was a communicant, with Father Mark Van Alstine celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Edgefield, SC. Mrs. Costigan was the daughter of Joseph and Ruth Schonhoff and was born April 10, 1919, in Advance, MO. Upon graduating from Carbondale Community High School, she attended Normal University in Illinois until she left to work in Washington, DC for the FBI during World War II. She then returned to her home in Carbondale, IL, where she served as Assistant to the Superintendent of High Schools until her retirement. She then moved to Augusta in 1989 to be near her sons and grandchildren. Survivors include three sons, Michael (Carter) Costigan of Aiken, SC, Stephen (Judy) Costigan of Augusta, GA and Brien (Wendy) Costigan of Lighthouse Point, FL; seven grandchildren, Will Costigan of Charlotte, NC, Thomas Costigan of Greenville, SC, James Costigan of Charleston, SC, Eliza Costigan of Aiken, SC, Derry Costigan and Lilly Costigan, both of Lighthouse Point, FL and Erin Goolsby, of Augusta, GA Pallbearers will be Will Costigan, Thomas Costigan, James Costigan, Tommy Casella, Adam Frye and Jack Blackburn.
