Our effect on environment seen at lake

  • Follow Letters

Believe in global warming? What a stupid question. If you don't think we've got that problem right here, take a ride out to Clarks Hill Lake. It's just frightening.

I take my dogs out there once each week. All summer, I watched as the water level fell, week after week, foot after foot. Now, there are three-foot-plus cliffs forming around the perimeter. Our last rain caused incredible erosion and eight-foot crevices down the beaches.

What is it going to take to get our attention?

Please, please turn off the water every chance you get. Check your tire pressure. Stop polluting the planet with bottled water.

Don't believe me? Take your kids to the lake. It may not be here by the time they grow up.

It is named Thurmond lake, and it has not dropped feet daily. Maybe you should be a little more observant, and take your medication. You can also help the situation by not driving your gas guzzeling suv all over town.

Stupid is as stupid does!

Bizarro

It is a man-made lake that is volume controlled. What the heck does it have to do with global warming.

The low levels of the lake are not an indication of "global warming." The writer's uninformed opinion is akin to ... BS! How will taking kids to the lake verify your claim? You must not understand ... squat. Sorry to be so hard on you Stacey, but your observations don't "gee-haw" with reality. Why doesn't the Chronicle vet mis-informed letters to the editor? Stacy said, "It's just frightening." Get real g-u-r-r-r-l !! You scare way too easy.

Stacey, why are Dems so proud of being stupid? You have now let the entire CSRA know about your intelligence challenged position. I can tell knowledge isn't to popular with you, but the lake level is a result of drought, not heat. It's a drought in a relatively small area. The global warming you're still referring to stopped in 1998. The current fad is now global cooling, again. The global warming won't be back for another 15 to 20 years.

Stacey, what you are looking at is bad management of the resources not global warming.

Climate change goes in cycles. God didn't make an earth that man could destroy. The earth is self-healing. By the way He made us that way too. Wow, He is a good God

Haven't you heard, Stacey? Its no longer global warming, its now global cooling as it has cooled the last three years. Which is why the environmental wackos now refer to their cause as the "climate crisis."

Excuse Me. I think it is still legally called Clarks Hill Lake on the Georgia side> Didn't they decide that when they were fighting over changing the name to Thurmond??The name changes at the middle of the dam> SusieQ

The entire lake was renamed to Thurmond, much to our objections. The Corp and DNR have left the Clark Hill Lake signs up on the Georgia side and if any go missing or destroyed, at that time they will be replaced with Thurmond Lake signs. No name split down the middle.

rufus

It will always be Clarks Hill to me

getalife

rufus, I agree and will never call it anything but Clarks Hill.
