BAIT! Don't take it...
We all know why President-elect Barack Obama won: He's a Democrat voted by the ignorant masses. If McCain had been a Democrat, he probably would have won; even those who voted for Obama should admit that.
The biased people of America have become so blinded that they won't consider a candidate's policies anymore. Not every Republican agreed with Bush. Not every Democrat will agree with Obama. Yet Americans have yet to figure that out by voting along party lines.
We are putting our government at risk and inviting overzealous beliefs. Forget that Obama supports the murder of babies up to nine months. Also, you cannot compare abortion to the death penalty. Abortion is the murder of a human being that has not had a chance to do wrong because it has not been born yet. The death penalty is the murder of a person who has done wrong. No intelligent, compassionate human being can honestly overlook that, but it seems most Americans ignore that fact and are so fixated with Obama's mantra of "change" that they probably don't even understand what kind of change Obama is proposing.
They are mesmerized by how the word "change" gracefully rolls off President-elect Obama's tongue with no problem. And they feel that only Democrats, not Republicans, can bring about this "change."
So before you tell someone, "We need a (insert party name) in government" consider that we need a human being with decent policies in government. Four years from now, America, I hope you actually research a candidate's policies and vote on the substance of those policies, not the party that the candidate represents.

BAIT! Don't take it...
I voted policies. This is sour grapes by someone who didn't.
We've listened to 8 years of sour grapes. I guess it's time for a new brand.
Lol, abdullah, every dog has his day, the Republican policies had their chance, and they failed miserably on all points. It's time to give something else a chance.
Amazing that the AC actually published tripe like this. There are so many inaccuracies in this letter, I can't begin to address them all. But let's take a look at just one, that Obama was voted in by "the ignorant masses". Huh. Guess the scribe doesn't know that the more educated a voter is, the more likely he/she was to vote Obama. Which is one reason those voters knew much that the letter writer obviously doesn't. For example, the "murder of babies up to nine months"? A lie. I, like GACopperhead, voted on POLICIES, not party. It just so happens that Democrats usually support the policies I support. And I used to LIKE John McCain, before he began pandering to folks like the letter writer. I didn't lose respect for him until he lost respect for the American people's intelligence.
midwesterntransplant - you are amazed that the paper prints letters like this one and the one about praying saying that the latter would never be published where you came from. I know there are deeply religious people in every part of the US. So what you are telling me is that we in the South are tolerant of all points of view and that everyone has a voice (yes, there have been letters posted that are the opposite of these) but where you come from the only ones that have a voice are those that agree with the publisher and/or do not have any religious overtones. That seems to me to fit right into Obama's far left socialist state. Where you came from has a head start then huh? Bless your heart (southern for "what an idiot")
This was the Oprah election, pure and simple. Oprah picked her boy right away and threw all of her weight (and that's a lot of weight) behind him as far as money and influence can go. For Pete's Sake, Obama is an empty suit with no original thought of his own. He must be reading Clinton's teleprompter, ergo his picks and choices. We can only hope that he is a one-term embarassment, and then we can elect a real leader and not a wanna be rock star.
It is a good point to the effect that the AC chooses to print this stuff. There are only a few letters to the editor printed daily, and surely there most be a great many more submitted. What a waste of paper and ink. It would be nice to see some critical thinking on the part of the letter writers and the AC editorial staff.
The Rep platform didn't fail, but the Bush administration failed. The Bush administration abandoned most of its Rep principals and the Rep blindly followed the idiot. Bush followed few of the Rep platforms like tax cuts, but immigration, bailout, spend, spend spend is a Dem ideology.
factchecker: nice try, but your feeble effort to rebut midwesterntransplant fails miserably. What MWT said was not that letters from people with strong religious beliefs did not have their letters published by their local papers, but that letter were not filled with "I pray thats" and Bible verses. In other words, Christians in other parts of the country actually follow the Bible's injunction to pray quietly in private, not ostentatiously in the public square to advertise how "religious" you are. And what a joke that the South is "tolerant" of other folks' views! Are you serious? My only consolation is that surely a person with your beliefs would NEVER continue to live in a "far left socialist state." Please let us know where you'll be moving so we can forward your mail....
Gosh, I didn't think you Christians made such a distinction between abortion and the death penalty! Aren't unborn babies tainted by Original Sin? Aren't they "born sinners"? Don't deny it; if I had a dollar for every time I've heard the words "We're all born sinners....." I'd be, well you know. Unbaptized infants will burn in the fires of Hell [sic], won't they?
By the way, don't bother to try to "enlighten" me with the finer points of your theology. I DON'T REALLY CARE! I think it's all a crock anyway.
Apparently Amber personally knows a doctor who has committed the crime of MURDER in the first degree and by keeping it quiet she is an accomplice! I gather that information from her statement" Obama supports murder of babies up to 9 months". Now she either needs to get with the police or keep her facts straight. I am appaled that LTEs' like this are allowed, especially when the A.C. knows they are patently false. Now you know why republicans are known as CON servativeS!!
You must be talking about the same ignorant masses who also elected George Bush to office twice.
I really see tolerance evoked by liberals-silence the ignorant faithful. Ironic the majority of Dems are also people of faith. The Dem party is not the "atheist" party. Neither the new president or vice president are atheists nor is the majority of the Dem Congress. Some people just wear their faith on their sleeves. Tolerance would include religious beliefs too.
GaC, you wouldn't recognize a policy unless CNN told you to.

Bizarro: I am one liberal who encourages all you Bible-beaters to keep on doing just what you're doing. Pray more, especially in public! Get on tv and pray there! Write more LTE's filled with Bible verses. Send more checks to Pat Robertson and James Dobson. Support more candidates like Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman. Protest more at Planned Parenthood clinics. I not only "tolerate" this stuff, I want you all to do MORE of it! The reason, of course, is that the more you do, the more you marginalize yourselves and your political influence nationally. Soon you'll all pray yourselves into political oblivion and we liberals will have a filibuster-proof lock on policy-making in the U.S. and you'll see just how INTOLERANT liberals can be....
eel, we've been dealing with the far left liberals for several decades now. We know how intolerant ya'll are. Controlling the entertainment industry and news media makes for a tough competitor, too.
Good letter Amber. Fellow Christians; I hope you see by comments to this letter and others how many opportunities you have to help bring people into the light and out of the darkness. Nothng satisfies like ministry and there is a lot of satisifaction out there to be had. Don't worry about offending someone when you witness to them. If they are already heading for hell you cant say anything that will send them to hell #2 or hell # 3. All you can do is help them. This is a great time to be a Christian!
soldout: You're right about this being "a great time to be a Christian" in at least one sense. Since all good Christians deep down have a secret desire for martyrdom, you're well on your way! The Daniel of social conservatism is about to be devoured by the Lion of secular liberalism, and I know you're all giddy with excitement about the prospect. I'm sure you'll all be praying real hard when the blood starts flowing.
PT: and now, in addition to the entertainment industry and the media, we have gained control of the instruments of political power. A sort of liberal trifecta! We're working on the military as you know (gays will soon serve openly, just like "real" Americans, NOT because the policy change will be forced on the military, but in response to the military's requesting it.) We're working on the airwaves too, you know, the Fairness Doctrine? We're not ready yet completely to silence the Rush Limbaughs, Pat Robertsons, Sean Hannitys and James Dobsons of the world, at least not yet. They're much too valuable to liberals in polarizing the far right into political irrelevance. More power to them, I say! And I just wish that you and the likes of christian134 had a national audience; the final victory of liberalism would be quicker and easier than ever....
This was the Palin's election, pure and simple. Rush picked his girl right away and threw all of his weight (and that's a lot of head weight) behind her as far as money and influence can go. For Pete's Sake, Palin is an empty suit with no original thought of her own. She must be reading McCain's teleprompter, ergo his picks and choices. We can only hope that she is a life-term governor, and then we can elect a real leader and not a wanna be whitehouse maverick.
Right on effete elitist liberal! You express my sentiments exactly and in a much better way than I can. This LTE is the stupidist yet. So I guess Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber and the Pat Robertsons are not supported by the ignorant masses. Only members of Mensa. (Organization of members with genius IQ's). Who knew? I have to stop wasting my time with the opinion page, but it's kind of like a car wreck. It's hard not to look, and it always comes through with the worst examples of ignorance, hatred, lies and arrogance. It is a paragon of American anti-intellectualism.
Your retort EEK is based on a false assumption in that all christians do as you describe. I haven't heard Obama or Biden quoting much scripture, nor would all hristians abide by Robertson or Dobson or the Pope. Christians are as diverse as liberals hee, hee, hee. The fact is you marginalize this group but it doesn't have to do with reality. Last I read 96% of the planet were peoples of faith with Christianity and Islam the top two. Marginalizing the majority of the planet seems a bit futile.
All Republicans are one and the same. That is why they got creamed. All of them, except for Christopher Shays and Lincoln Chafee, hate women. All of them, with the exception of Chafee, supporter the murder-for-oil in Iraq. Everyone who voted for McCain are the most ignorant group of people I have ever come to know!
Palin is an empty suit that someone else bought for her.
Amber,
You are clearly misinformed yet have the unmitigated gall to claim that Obama was elected "by the ignorant masses"
Hmmm.....so you think you're smarter than majority of the country who voted for Obama? That's rather presumptuous, my dear.
President elect Obama does not support abortions for fetuses up to 9 months. That statement is bogus. Obama opposed the born-alive treatment law because it was already law, and seriously undermined the Judiciary ruling of Roe VS Wade
Regardless of who is president, a republican or democrat, Roe v Wade will not be changed. If it was to be so, why didn't Reagan, Bush I or II fight to have it reversed?
Elections are never about one single issue. It's about the economy, the unfinished business in the middle east, and about restoring our good name and the United States place as a superpower.
In 2000, I was a registered republican. And I voted for McCain in the primaries, and Bush in the November election. By 2006, I changed my party affliation to democrat after I lost faith in the republican party for their lies, their inability to deal with a faltering economy, and their leader's "cowboy style" diplomacy.
As usual, Bizarro, you misinterpret what I say. My point is certainly NOT that all Christians are social conservatives under the hypnotic sway of Limbaugh, Dobson, et al., as a majority of Obama voters would certainly describe themselves as Christians too. My point is that the Republican party, mostly out of fear, has allowed its nominees and its policies to be overly influenced by those Far Right Christians who DO follow Evangelical leaders and individuals such as Limbaugh who, though not Evangelical themselves, know how to exploit and stir up those of you who are.
It's those on the MARGINS of Christianity who have had a disproportionate influence on the Republican Party and will bring it down.
Amber is right on and the rest of you who disagree are un-educated since you will vote for someone only because they sound or look good. Experience or qualifications be damned!
