It's good to be the king. Just ask Evans High School's Michael Tanksley, 17, the homecoming king of 2008.

"I knew that a lot of people in band would vote for me, and a lot of people said I might win, but I guess it never hit me as a real possibility."

Michael, also known as Mike or Tank, stays busy.

He is band captain, a member of the jazz band and the halftime marching band and competition marching band at Evans. He's also in Augusta State University Conservatory Jazz Band and in the Beta Club, student council, National Honor Society, Interact Club and Renaissance Team at Evans,

Even though he is busy, Michael finds time for his school work to be sure he has good grades.

Many students at Evans look up to him as a role model. He has a good sense of humor and he is dedicated to his school work and music. After high school, he plans to attend college and major in music education.

Jena Berkhimer is a sophomore at Evans High School.
