A police chase ended Sunday night with deputies pulling a man from the Savannah River.
According to Richmond County Sheriff's Sgt. David Bourbo, deputies began pursuing the man, whose name was not immediately available, in the Harrisburg area shortly before 11 p.m. They were staking out a home as part of an ongoing investigation, he said.
The man led deputies to Riverwalk Augusta near 10th Street, where he abandoned the car and jumped into the Savannah River. Sgt. Bourbo said he would be charged with several traffic violations.

Didn't realize you were training olympic swimming champs down there, Sarge.
Wow that was extreme...Not much of an example of shining "smarts" this person...:-) That water is cold.....
Hey I am glad SOMEONE caught SOMETHING from that river, God knows I can`t !!!
Shouldn't he be charged for polluting the river also?
Sometimes I live in the country; Sometimes I live in the town; Sometimes I get a great notion; To jump in the river and drown...Leadbelly, "Goodnight Irene".
There go the drugs, downstream
If you have to escape the Sheriff, best on land! Brrrrr.
Somethin fishy bout this tale
should have let him drown.
Glad to see Bourbo is still around.
Maybe he missed his Saturday night bath and was just trying to catch up- before he went to the pokey.
Please go online to www.honkytonkbedonkadonk.org. We don't need this sort of riff raff trash polluting our waterways and rivers. Let's keep Mercy Ministries out of Clarke's Hill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All they charged him with was traffic violations?
