MCG honors city, housing authority

The Medical College of Georgia has presented President's Awards to the city of Augusta and the Augusta Housing Authority for their help on the university's expansion in Augusta.

President Daniel W. Rahn presented the awards, the highest honor MCG bestows, at the annual President's Dinner on Saturday.

The Augusta Commission provided the University System of Georgia Board of Regents with $10 million in September to purchase the Gilbert Manor property from the Augusta Housing Authority. The 15-acre property will be the site of a new School of Dentistry building. An expansion of the School of Medicine also is being planned for the site.

Why did we Richmond County tax payers foot the bill for a federal housing porject?

SargentMidTown

Not only did we tax payers foot the bill to buy Gilbert Manor ....we also pay federal taxes to have the Gilbert Manor residents scattered to terrorize our neighborhoods through the section 8 wrecking ball. Not all but many Gilbert Manor residents were trouble makers. Not all but many sections 8 recipients are troublemakers. The Augusta Housing Authority does not go by the HUD manual. There is impropriety. Help create a better Augusta. Support www.hongkongaugustaga.org

So What has changed? One group of parasites moved out and another moved in.

at least now with the area being used for university services, it will mean increased student enrollment which does help the local tax base. money will be going out into the community by way of sales taxes, usage fees and other consumption taxes instead of resources going in such as police and fire calls, ambulance and other social services for those who were living off the system for years and years. granted some may have honestly needed subsidized housing but not females with 2, 3, 4 or more children just waiting for a handout and not willing to work or go to school to better themselves
