Liberals dish it out, but can't take it

  • Follow Letters

Nancy Moore from Martinez wrote in her Nov. 13 letter to the editor, "President-elect Obama requires all of our support and non-partisanship during these days of so many complex issues facing our country."

This is a statement I have seen and heard in many forms in the recent days following the election.

I do not have a problem with this contention, but I do have a problem with this quote in light of all the disrespect President Bush received from both the media, and the liberal population alike.

Many liberals, I have found, can "dish it out," but get upset when the man they supported is now on the receiving end of such disrespect.

President Bush deserves all of the same support that Moore has requested for President-elect Obama. If liberals now believe that everyone should support Obama, and they are guilty of even one unsupportive comment towards President Bush, then they need not get upset when they hear unsupportive statements made towards President-elect Obama.

Many people now know how Bush supporters have felt for the majority of the last eight years.

Former Augustan

Liberals - and I'm one - have been taking it from Republicans who have gleefully been dishing it out for almost 8 years. Paybacks are hell, so get used to it. Bush & Cheney deserve absolutely no sympathy or respect - they have almost ruined this country. You rednecks will all realize what a "real" president is soon.

GnipGnop1

I am so glad you are a "former augustan!" You call us rednecks? That makes you a stereotypical idiot. I agree with the letter writer. I wish Obama well but liberals can only blame Bush for so long. Step up or shut up.

GGpap

Mr. Hagler II, I was a Mcain/Palin supporter but I am compelled to say that our current president deserves every bit of venom that has been spit in his direction! He will certainly get no pity from me. It is time to suck it up, Sir. As fo me, my hopes are with Obama now, we would all do well to give this man a chance to undo the damages done over the past 8 years.

carcraft

The Bush bashers, over time, are going to realize that W was not that bad a president, not great like Reagen who was all so constantly bashed. The sub prime mortgage mess and Fanine and Freddie melt dow were Democrat problems. You whined about tax breaks for the rich and now want to give billions to the auto industry and big labor unions that over burdened them. I looked at the diaz when Obama gave his press conferance, it was full of old rich white guys, looked like a graduation class of the Republican party. George Orwell was right.

christian134

Former Augustan your casting of slurs of a person's character just because we, I, they voted Republican is really a black mark on your own character....Furthermore it is just not nice:-)...Personally there were people of all colors who voted for a Republican so to call them red-necks is quite silly don't you believe? But I will say this the Conservative Party needs to get back to the grass-roots of what is morally right by practicing the right way of living instead of putting their heads in the sand...

JesusIsComing

Eight years of no attacks on our nation is not a bad record. Thank you, President Bush and the US military and law enforcement.

christian134

My added thanks along with yours JesusIsComing....

shivas

Yes carcraft, we will realize he was much worse. Obama offers hope and real solutions rather than hate and fear.

jeelmy

Bush/Cheney/McCain paid lip service to Christian conservatism, and that is all. What a joke for McCain to accuse Obama of being a "big taxer" after the GOP has made a total mockery of fiscal conservatism. Bush billed himself a Pro-life Christan conservative who would reverse Row v. Wade, only to pass regulation that gave Planned Parenthood more funds. Ask the more than 8 million unborn babies who were killed in their mother's wombs during Bush's unconstitutional wars how Pro-life they are. Bush/Cheney will get my support when they are tried for crimes against humanity.

I4PUTT

Liberals said it first...no Republicans said it first....are we really such big babies??? If you voted for Obama, support him. Don't be a coward. I voted for Presudent Bush twice and I have supported him over the last 8 years. Did my guy stink it up some over the last 8 years? You betcha. Will yours?

Bizarro

Well if we look at Obama's success as a state senator and community organizer then we shouldn't be expecting too much out of the guy. Is this sort a like horse betting where you hope the poor performer will bust out and win the race?

Bizarro

Oh, I forgot he represents Change. Like that he did 8 years a senator. What, What's that you say. I can't hear you. You just didn't say he was just another typical senator following the status quo did you??? He must be like the Buddha and suddenly found enlightenment. BAM! from community organizing lawyer to a economic guru. I wonder was it a lightening bolt or more like the transfiguration where he started glowing and stuff. Kool! That'd be a sight to behold.

patriciathomas

Back on subject, liberals not only can dish it out, but they have numerous organizations whose only job is to dish it out. If anyone speaks the truth about a liberal then they get offended by the light. It's not that libs can't take it, it's that they hate being exposed.

shivas

That's right Bizarro, as a community organizer this election can show you how inept and what a failure he is. As for being exposed patriciathomas, I believe your only fight is to prevent a filibuster proof Senate. The people of this country have spoken. Success is not so hard to take.,

patriciathomas

Success isn't hard to take when you're on the successing side. It's tough to deal with until reality sets in though. No corrections can be made for two years. It's a good thing Americans are so tough.

sick of taxes

Liberals AND Democrats are so SO STUPID. The whole world, England, Germany, France, Switzerland, Russia, China, Japan, South American countries, basically every country is in the same recession boat. And you clowns blame BUSH? Dream on. the worst part of it is, the DIMWITS managed to steer the election by blaming BUSH to get the clown Obama elected. We are really in dire straights now. Watch us all SINK.

bsandersga

George Bush got a great deal of support from the American people at the beginning of his administration, but he lost it when he proved he didn't deserve it. If President-elect Obama continues warrantless surveillance of citizens, politicization of the Justice Department, fills federal offices with incompetent and partisan political hacks, starts a war based on lies, and calls everyone who disagrees with him "unpatriotic," then he will lose our support, also.

realistineducation

republicans are the ones who have been dishing it out, and now that their party is washed up, they take their ball and run with their lips poking out. very amusing

mad_max

Obama was elected because the economy crashed. The economy crashed because of the housing market. The housing market crashed because of democrat pressure on fannie and freddie to give mortgages to minorities who could not afford to make the payments. Those are facts. Liberals have so much venom and vile built up in them that they refuse to look at the facts. Nothing you say to them will make them think differently. They are all wild eyed crazys like Nancy Pelosi. They have whipped themselves into a frenzy and there is no reasoning with them so save your breath. They have no excuses now. They control everything. Sell your stocks, reduce your tax burden, load your guns, and defend your family and your property because the "spread the wealth" party is coming after you and yours.

dashiel

Like respect, disrespect is also earned. If Obama will surround himself with competent people and wisely consider their counsel; if he will make decisions for the good of the country; and if he can deliver us from even half the trainwreck he is inheriting, then he will have earned the respect of America and the world.

SouthernChic

Gould, How can you forget that 90% + Americans supported Bush after 9/11? I admired his assertation that he would "smoke out" Bin Laden. However, after it was proven that there were no WMD in Iraq, that Al-Queda had no ties to Hussein, and Bin Laden has not been caught and Bush has said and I quote, "Bin Laden is no longer a threat" I think the American people have a right to be disgruntled with Bush. But Obama hasn't even taken office, and you are already bashing him. Geez, can't you be fair? Give the man a chance. If he proves unworthy, then you have a legitimate gripe. We democrats gave Bush a chance, and in fairness, we are asking that you give your new president a chance, even if he is a democrat.

giveitsomethought

The different postings would be funny if they weren't full of hate and just out right lies on both sides. Use your time helping others not just yourselves

hossiv

Lady Dem, did you read his letter? There was no "bashing" of president elect Obama. Fairness, is exactly what Mr. Hagler is asking for.

justthefacts

hossiv, what a novel idea. Read AND comprehend. Huh?

angiesdad

hagler, all bush and cheney deserve is a prison cell.they stole both elections, pulled off 911,and started a war in iraq for oil.actually they deserve worse than a cell, but i don't want to have a post deleted for this trash.exactly ladydem, binladen was never anything but a patsy,of course he's no threat he never was.look at his fbi most wanted poster, nothing on it about 911. well, isn't that strange?

dani

a..d..Pass your knowledge of bin Laden along to Obama. In his 60 Min interview last evening he stated that getting bin Laden is one of his main priorities. He evidently doesn't have your insider's information.

grouse

9/11, the failure of the response to Katrina, the invasion of Iraq, the financial crisis, Gonzalez, the Patriot Act and many more - all happened under the watch of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. He deserves no respect and we go down in history as one of the worst Presidents in U.S. history.

angiesdad

exactly grouse.these 2 should have been impeached but they had the congress for the first 6 years and never would have been convicted.we also have some folks on the demo side who stink just as bad.they're more concerned about image than anything.i find pelosi and reid as the worst and wimpiest of all, that's why we'll never get ahead because of those zeroes.dani, obama knows pretty well what happened on 911.by telling these scared of their shadow voters that he will keep looking is just a ploy to just feed them a little hush mouth.no ones looking for him, because he is a nobody who never did anything, but has people believing he did.

gagirl40

The difference Mr. Hagler is, Obama has yet to take office and he is already being attacked! President Bush has been at the helm for nearly 8 years, we have seen his mistakes and he has been called on them. Why don't we give Obama a chance before we start attacking him for something he has yet to do?
