AUGUSTA, Ga. - Sergeant First Class James C. Smith, Sr., "Smitty", 72, beloved husband of 50 years of Judith Smith, entered into rest Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, No- vember 15, 2008 in the Lumpkin Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home with General Pope officiating. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jeffrey Smith. Full Military Honors will be accorded by the Fort Gordon Military Detachment. Sergeant Smith retired from the United States Army having served in the Vietnam Conflict. He was an active member of VFW Post 649 and American Legion Post 178. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James C. (Candy) Smith, Jr., Norman (Malissa) Smith; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dianna (Jon) Tanner, Cindy (Paul) Jones, Shari (Dan) Stenback; eleven grandchildren; a sister, Sandra (Charles) Blake and one brother, Dave (Helga) Freese. The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 1:00 PM before the service on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, Georgia 30906, 706-793-0123.
