Rep. Broun insults our intelligence

  • Follow Letters

I am absolutely outraged and horrified by the comments of Rep. Paul Broun regarding our new president elect. Of course he meant to compare him to Hitler and to claim anything less is disingenious and an insult to our intelligence.

The Republican party has thrived on creating fear for the last eight years. Did last week's election not prove to them that Americans are sick of it? Where was Rep. Broun's voice when "his" president was torturing people and violating our constitution?

It's time to quit fear-mongering and get to work -- together. The American people want and expect it.

Even if 60% of Georgians voted for McCain, the election is over and there is simply too much work to be done to waste time with this kind of nonsense.

Two years is not that long before we have another chance to vote "Broun the Clown" out of office. In the meantime, he needs to quit embarrassing Georgia and start working with our new president to fix the mess George Bush is leaving us.

Some Cooperation in the past by Democrats might have inticed support from the right. All that they could do is bash Bush and dig their heels in. Do unto others they say, they are not Democrats. Democrats do as they please and expect to shame the rest into cooperation"for the good of the country". You have your cake, now eat your Humble Pie. Dr Broun was spot on in his comparison of Hitlers' Political strategies to Hitlers' Political Strategies. There's an old republican saying,"If the shoe fits, a Democrat will have it in his mouth before the sole gets scuffed."

Raelene, we're happy that you're horrified, Maybe NOW you on the Left will pay attention to what's being done in your name.

If by "get to work", Raelene, you mean "getting on down to the Post Office to see how much your check has increased" then that is exactly what you need to do. Paul Broun was simply speaking the truth which will play out over the course of Oprah's hand picked boy. Just waddle on over to the store and get yourself another bottle of Mad Dog, and leave Paul Broun alone while he tries to defend our freedom which we enjoy for the time being.

Paws..

It looks like Greenbum has whipped up a letter writing campaign to solidify the distortion of what Dr. Broun said about B.Ho. Broun spoke the truth and accurate quotes of Obama confirm that he spoke the truth. Keep telling the truth Dr. Broun and in the future don't apologize for it.

Raelene, I've read your LTE. I feel confident that your intelligence won't be insulted. Only your blindness may be mocked.

Is it just me or did the Bush hating by all of these overly sensitive Democrats start during his first election? Didn't I hear the rally call by Obama to hate Bush therefore McCain throughout this campaign? I don't get it. I will say this. If Dr. Paul Broun insulted your intelligence he must have a deadly aim, mam.

Lord helps us angry white men/women (dare I say from the South) at Obama being elected president. How long will you stay down in the racial mire... get up and come out.

I have asked repeatedly from the left that posts"What did Obama mean by what Obama said in that speach?" It defies logic. Obama is the one that gave the speach that went "Words, just words...." The only way that sentance and portion of the speach can be constructed is to mean that Obama wants a national defense force as strong and well funded as the military. I didn't say it Obama said it. Words have meaning. Is Obama an idiot that just says things? Does Obama have a plan for such a force? How will it be structured and funded? Now I guess my records get reviewed and made public like Joe the plumber because I dared to question Obama!

First they came for the communists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the trade unionists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Now they've come for me and there's no one left to speak up. Pastor Martin Niemoller. In this poem, Niemoller spoke of the attitude of the National Socialist Worker party that elected the messiah to lead and the terrible surprise their blindness-by-choice brought them.

Oh my... She is horrified..The horror of it all. Why can't we all understand that you don't question the motives of the big O, He will lead us out of the darkness and into the light. {:)

Actually the Republicans have been at it a longer than eight years. What Karl Rove did for Bush 43, Lee Atwater did for Bush 41. Both of these 'political advisors' showed that by pitching red meat sound bites to rednecks you can get anybody elected, and you can even hide a disastrous performance in office for awhile.

It is, of course, legitimate to debate Obama's proposals. It is NOT legitimate to invent proposals, ascribe them to him and then suggest they are similar to those of a notorious genocidal tyrant. And that is what Broun did.

Obama proposed a civilian agency that would be dedicated to the kind of aid, relief, and rebuilding activities that our national security keeps requiring (Haiti, Iraq, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Somalia, etc.) and that we have burdened our armed forces with because we lack the proper tool. Good idea or not? Feel free to debate.

But Broun does not. Instead, he suggests Obama means to create a Secret Police force such as the Gestapo or the NKVD. This is a lie. No honest observer can convert the suggestion of a civilian agency of aid workers into an armed intelligence agency with unlimited covert police powers. Ironically, Secret Police activities - domestic surveillance, unlimited detention, "extraordinary rendition," secret warrants, etc. - HAVE increased recently. Broun supported that, Obama opposed.

Ms. Vautrin is right - Broun must think we are pretty stupid.

patriciathomas

If you think that's what Broun said Cormac, someone thinks you're pretty stupid. He compared Obama's stated stance, using his exact words, to those of another community organizer in history. The comments were made before the gestapo and NKVD came into being. The civilian security force evolved from its original proposed purpose. Could history repeat itself? I don't think it will, because it never has. Or, am I wrong?

patriciathomas

My Take, you repeated that "red meat sound bites" part real good. PBS may have a job waiting for you.

Cormac, does this force you discribe need to be as powerfull and well funded as the US military? That is what Obama said! Do we aircraft carriers, atomic submarines for this force you discribe. According to the speach Obama gave that is what he wants. It sort of scares me thinking of the military intelligence gathering capabilities of the military. Tell me why Obama thinks this force it should be as strong as our military?

carcraft

Cormac, maybe it is Obama that insults our intellegence. After all we cling to our religion and guns.....

I only have two words for Rep Broun ... Sieg Heil!

PT..please tell us where that quote came from? I think you made it up myself! Also, FYI...Should we also fear Robert Gates as a socialist, Marxist and say he is also Hitler like? "Last fall the Secretary of Defense Robert Gates began giving a series of speeches about the need to create a more modern State Department and a "CIVILIAN NATIONAL SECURITY FORCE" that could "deploy teams that combine agricultural specialists and engineers and linguists and cultural specialists who are prepared to go into some of the most dangerous areas alongside the military." Gates' idea was big- seemingly as big as Obama's $439 billion vision- "If we've got a State Department or personnel that have been trained just to be behind walls, and they have not been equipped to get out there alongside our military and engage, then we don't have the kind of national security apparatus that is needed. That has to be planned for; it has to be paid for. Those personnel have to be trained. And they all have to be integrated."

patriciathomas

Okay, gagirl, I admit it, I made my quote up. Is Gates a socialist? I don't know. I'm not familiar with everyone in DC. I do know that Obama is a marxist, and not just because of one statement. His record and training and associations and stated philosophy is a little harder indicator. Is Gates a part of the cabal that has much influence with Obama? I don't know. Is Gates stated proposal similar to Obama's, yes. Is Obama's similar to the National Socialist Workers Party proposal of 1933? Yes. Would Obama go off the deep end and become a horrible monster? I don't see it happening. Has it happened before? Uh,uh,uh... The whole point made by Broun was that it has happened before, more then once. I think Wendy Addams said it best, "Be afraid, be very afraid.". (I know ya'll love those movie quotes)

Porpoise

Mr. Obama insulted my intelligence when he said on national television that he had never heard Rev. Wright say the horrible things he said during his sermons. Must have been sleeping in church for twenty years.

I can't believe I voted for Broun. I'm going down to my local gun shop to buy the biggest shotgun I can find before the Obama administration makes it difficult for retards like me to buy guns. I'll then load the gun and firmly place the muzzle in my mouth and promptly blow my brains out. Only this can save me from the shame of what I did in the voting booth.
