Paul Broun was right about Obama

  • Follow Letters

Your editorial condemning Dr. Broun was unjustified. He didn't call Obama a Hitler. He was merely stating a fact when he said Obama is trying to do what Hitler did in creating a civilian national security force answerable only to him. You can call it an extension of the Peace Corps or whatever. It will turn out to be the same thing.

If my memory serves me right, part of Hitler's national security came from his formation of young thugs he called his Youth Movement, some who turned on their own parents.

Our next president wants unlimited police power over U.S. citizens fully supported and funded by a Democrat-controlled Congress and completely controlled by one man. Complete control over the masses is what Obama seeks.

Straight from the thoughts of Karl Marx. Dr. Broun hit the nail right on the head.

Tujeez

I don't even have to read this one. You're damned right he was.
And the Democrats are praying real hard that they haven't stepped in something they can't get off of their shoe.

realistineducation

your are just as ignorant and bround, get for facts right before you write a letter to the editor. why do you people find it that you have to spread hate and fear, after losing an election. The American people have spoken, and we don't want your crap anymore, don't you get it? You have had 8 years to totally rape this country, and have done a pretty good job of it. It is now time for the Democrats to return this country to prosperity, just like we had to do after the first bush.

Nammy

Oh, get off it, real...so you want them to sugar-coat everything that happens now? eh. I for one, DON'T! Spreading hate and fear my [filtered word]. This election was too full of it to bother spreading any now. The man is WHITE! So ya'll get over it! Stop claiming he's black---just cuz he's rather well tanned doesn't mean jack! I'd far rather be prepared for anything about to happen then sit back and just take it up the watusi.

patriciathomas

Once again, repeating Obama's words and revealing his political record isn't hate speech. It just looks like it. Honesty always seems to look like hate to the left. Why is that?

patriciathomas

namasta, "up the watusi" ? Isn't that a racist comment? I bet some ultra-sensitive type will have that comment removed.

Paws, I see you are quoting one of those highly educated Obama supporters we hear so much about...

Broun apologized, WHY, if I believed it so, I wouldn't have. I wonder if the other Georgia Republicans really support what he said in private but rebuked him openly to look good. A lot of stuff is said behind closed doors, especially if it's all whites together or all blacks together, we all know if it just US together (one race all alone) racial comments are said.

realist "The American people have spoken, and we don't want your crap anymore, don't you get it? " So, once again, the response from the left is that people who don't agree with them should just sit down and shut up. Yep, that's the modern Democrat party: We will defend to the fullest, your right to purchase simulated kiddie porn, but we will not tolerate your "hate-filled" political opposition to the one politician who is clearly sui generis, a reality unto himself, pure and noble in all things... Please. Broun was full of garbage, yes. You are absolutely right. Ever notice what conservatives do when liberals make really stupid statements like Broun's? Just look at how we treat Biden... "No, really, Joe? Gee, tell us more. Wait, let me get this tape recorder going. Ok, good, can you expand on your statement about Indians and Pakistanis in the 7-11's in your neighborhood, please?" "Barack, you want to 'spread the wealth," what an interesting concept. Please, tell us more... How will you determine 'need'? How will you determine 'ability'? Interesting..." See, when liberals do what liberals do best, we encourage them to talk MORE, so that all can see their idiocy. Try it, it's fun!

soldout

"Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded," says Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, "The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness." "Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."

augispos

You fools trying to defend Broun's comments amaze me. Can you not admit that he worded his opinion in a way meant to instill fear? You can disagree with Obama's plans all you want, but comparing him to Hitler makes you sound like an idiot.

patriciathomas

augi, yes, his phrasing was meant to instill fear. Obama wasn't compared to Hitler (a dem trick), his stated ideas are identical to Hitler's stated ideas. Coincidental, I know, but identical.

Cormac

Mr. Jones should spend some time reviewing both what Obama has proposed and what the Gestapo was before writing again.

Obama has proposed creating a civilian agency that would perform the kind of relief and rebuilding efforts that we have repeatedly - and inappropriately - asked our soldiers to perform over the last few decades. This will allow the soldiers to focus on their primary mission - keeping America safe from armed enemies, while improving our rather dismal record at rebuilding infrastructure, economies, and communities smashed by war and natural disaster.

The Gestapo, on the other hand, was a Secret Police force, who were charged with internal state security. Ironically, core Secret Police functions such as secret and unlimited detention, domestic surveillance, and the infiltration and discrediting of radical political groups HAS expanded during the Bush years - but over the opposition of Senator Obama. (You may recall that his stronger Civil Liberties positions were one of the things that powered him over Mrs. Clinton.)

It takes willful ignorance to confound an organization of aid and relief workers to a secret police force. Mr. Jones should be ashamed.

MyTake

This same point has come up in several places, making me think one of the right wing hate talk hosts pushed this idea. Up to now I had no idea we had any 'dittoheads' running around in higher office - a frightening thought. It is a shame to see an intelligent person fall into this trap.

patriciathomas

Cormac, you are apologetically confused. When the ideas espoused by Obama were presented in the early '30s, the Gestapo didn't exist. The populace was mesmerized by the charming and charismatic young community organizer that was going to bring them relief from financial strife and economic effort. It was only after the messiah was given the power of national leader that the facist appeared with his gestapo. His civil liberties corps was a group referred to as "brown shirts" and any who weren't enthusiastic supporters of the leader were reported to the "authorities". I think when you came up with your theory, you skipped a chunk of history. Are you a government school graduate?

imdstuf

First Obama is a socialist, now he is trying to be like Hitler, who was a facist. Make up your minds. Again, as for police power one look no further than the Enabling Act, which if you read it, is juyst like the Patriot Act. The conservatives in Britian put up cameras everywhere to watch citizens. Bush wanted to have authority to listen to people's conversations, even our own soldiers making private calls to loved ones back home. You tell me who wanted a police state.

patriciathomas

again, imdstuf, pre-facist era of Hitler, he was just a mild mannered community organizer who wanted to share the wealth with everyone and all he needed was the leadership of his country to prove it. He espoused the teachings of Karl Marx and was the benevolent meister of his era...until he was in power. THEN he was the evil facist monster. Two different eras in history. Not one. Combining them looks like just another apology for crazy ideas.

grouse

"unlimited police power" you mean like in Bush's Patriot Act?

patriciathomas

grouse, are you still allowed to speak openly? I guess the Patriot Act isn't everything you claim. Turn off NPR, it's misleading you.

Only in the south, Lord Jesus.

Jacktootiefruitycake, I lived in the north in that cradle of liberalism called Massachussets and have never seen more bigoted and ignorant people any where in the south.

Good letter.

NotyourDadsBuick

Hehe. It wasn't so long ago the Patriot Act was passed, no? Talk about giving up liberties. If what is stated in the letter is true -- and we won't know for years -- then he's just continuing what was started by the worst president in the history of the United States. First your liberties, then your money.

HalvardHussein

Not all that long ago, but obviously a lot of people here have "conveniently" forgotten:

http://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/011004/edi_089-6879.shtml

It's funny how when one side makes a comparison, it's mean-spirited and in bad tase; when the other side makes the an analogous comparison, no matter how much it lacks in cogency, it's suddenly all right.

Nor have I forgotten the row when one member of the German Cabinet made an unflattering remark about Bush.

Just the Facts Please

And the ones sounding the alarm are silenced by the majority, leaving free thought, free speech and democracy dead on the side of the road. Hitler once said."We have stepped over the corpse of democracy once, if necessary we shall repeat the maneuver."

HalvardHussein

For someone being "silenced" you make a helluva lot of noise.
----
When Bush's tactics were justly compared with fascism, the right went on a flaming rampage, screaming blue murder at those who had denigrated their hero. People lost their jobs because of it.
----
Now the right is comparing a suggested expansion--made exactly once, months ago--of the Peace Corps and AmeriCorps to the Gestapo and the SS. This is, to put it mildly, utter bilge. For someone who calls himself "Facts" you need to read up on history. Broun's comparisons are so devoid of factual basis as to be beyond discussion.
----
But obviously this is not the forum for a reasoned discussion. Sorry for having assumed otherwise.
