Obama contingent heads for Augusta

  • Follow Metro

A contingent from President-elect Barack Obama's campaign is expected to arrive in Augusta this week to help Jim Martin in his bid to unseat U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss.

Richmond County Democratic Party Chairman Lowell Greenbaum told a group of Columbia County Democrats that Mr. Obama is sending 15 people to Augusta to organize an area campaign on behalf of Mr. Martin for an expected Dec. 2 runoff.

"We are very excited," Mr. Greenbaum said Monday night. "If we knock off Saxby Chambliss, this state is going blue."

The workers are in need of housing during their stay. Mr. Greenbaum asked Columbia County Democrats for their support.

Mr. Martin's campaign has asked Mr. Obama to pay a visit but hasn't received any commitment yet.

Former GOP presidential candidate John McCain will be in Georgia on Thursday stumping for Mr. Chambliss. It will be Mr. McCain's first foray back onto the campaign trail since losing the race for the White House.

A runoff will not become official until Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel certifies election results later this week.

Mr. Chambliss took about 1.9 million votes last week to Mr. Martin's about 1.8 million. Libertarian candidate Allen Buckley won about 128,000 votes.

Associated Press reports were used in this article.

As a combat vet in Viet Nam

As a combat vet in Viet Nam there is no way I could vote for Saxby. How about the way Saxby worked with Kennedy, Pelosi, Reid, Frank, And Dodd on Amnesty, over ridding President Bush’s 3 Vetoes of Saxby’s farm Bill, the Gang of 10 TRAITORS and the $700,000,000,000. bail out of Wall Street with an added $153,000,000,000.00 of pork after he took $2,000,000.00 from Wall Street LOBBYIST. Fire Saxby Now, Fire Saxby Now, Pay Less

It's ridiculous that Lowell

It's ridiculous that Lowell and Obiwan have to bring outsiders to Augusta. Apparently they don't think we know how to vote fairly. Lowell, he's not going to give you a piece of Washington, so quit sucking up.

So... when outsiders assisted

So... when outsiders assisted Saxby Chambliss to defeat Max Cleland in 2002 was that not noteworthy also? Do your comments mean that you think Chambliss does not get outside help now?

What? Jim Martin isn't good

What? Jim Martin isn't good enough to handle his own campaign? Him can't get lected all by his widdle self? I'm sorry, but when your party is calling in outside help to come in and get you elected then it's pretty darn obvious you're not capable of doing the job they think you're supposed to do.

Yes, I am sure B. Hussein

Yes, I am sure B. Hussein Obama has plenty of funds left over to buy more votes, so this is a totally democrat run nation. I am just praying that these obnoxious, lying, cheating liberals get what they deserve one day. Conservative, Republicans are just being way too cordial and nice. Yes. Hussein shows his class by leaking info from his meeting with President Bush. He would not make a pimple on President's Bush's butt!!!!!

According to the news, the

According to the news, the DNC is 15 million in debt from the Presidential Campaign. Looks like you good Dem supporters are going to have to dig a little deeper to pull this one out. Maybe the Obaminant one, Greenbum can put together a car wash to raise some Acorn money. Looks like the African-American Community wont be voting this one on color, unless they like Blue, that is. It Is such a shame that the DEMs couldn't find a minority challenger for Saxby Chambliss, then they wouldn't have to spend the extra cash. All of you Good Democratic supporters don't fret about that contribution money you'll be spending, Obama will have your checks in the mail------Real soon. Give 'em a TooT TooT for motivation jack234.

registration for the run-off

registration for the run-off closed in October, they won't be able to pull the same "absentee" voter stunt this time...look at the numbers; Martin will lose 18,000 votes in Augusta alone if these "absentee" voters don't make it to the polls
