"We're going to have some discussions on members who we think we'd like to have run for offices in the next two or four years," county party Chairwoman Rosemary Fitzpatrick said.

For information, call Ms. Fitzpatrick at (706) 231-1513.

Arrested mother will be returned to Aiken

Aiken authorities have gone to New Mexico to bring back a woman who spent two months on the run with her children and is accused of abducting them, according to Aiken Public Safety Capt. Wendell Hall.

"Within the coming week, (Veronica Kirby) should return to Aiken," said Capt. Hall, who would not specify the day, citing safety reasons.

Mrs. Kirby, who was arrested in Albuquerque, N.M., on Nov. 1, faces two counts of transporting a child under 16 out of state against a court order.

In September, the 29-year-old woman lost custody of 7-year-old Trinity and 6-year-old Isaac to her ex-husband, Ed Kirby.

Is there no description of the shooting suspect at all? Or was that question just to tough for a reporter to ask? Since this guy is in the habit of just walking up to folks and shooting them for no reason, we would kind of like to have at least a vague idea of WHAT HE LOOKS LIKE!

MR.Kojak

Actually it was a martinez man and woman in the car and she was actually grazed by one of the rounds that was fired. Description, black male with a gun. Motive robbery!

MR.Kojak

Mr. Doe was not a good guy. Sometimes bad things happen to bad people!

pantherluvcik

Why so judgemental, these people are victims of crimes.

HYPOCRITES 08

MUTT is that you President Elect Obama? I am sorry I could not resist it.

HYPOCRITES 08

" Mr. Doe was not a good guy". Was he deserving of the death penalty? Just asking a question. I already know the circumstances or rather prior history between the two.

DoubleD

If it is suspicious and looks suspicious something shady was going down. No conversation took place? So it was a random shooting with no attempt at robbery or assault? BS! Some people are so naive! I hardly consider that person a victim.

Newsreader

Are these people victims of crimes, or bad choices?

disssman

Just proves what I always say, stay out of downtown Augusta if you value your life or property!

I4PUTT

I had no idea the Democratic party was even active in Columbia County.

HYPOCRITES 08

I don't know why they would be. Columbia County is in their own little world. I wonder if they will be having an Obama Drive or a Bush Street?

devilishlymad67

actually the guy was getting out of his car with his girlfriend at his brother's condo. There was no conversation, it was a random shooting, possible initition according to responding officers. The shooter was black, between the ages of 25-30 and was on foot.

icemanw83

If everyone got their concealed weapon permit you wouldn't have random shootings. You shoot at me, you better kill me because I'm going to shoot back until the gun is empty, then hit you in the head with it a couple of times. Don't be a victim. You might want to get it before January. ;)

Rupret in the middle east

Icemanw83 that won't solve anything, over here lots of peoplr carry gun plus get kill before they get a chance to use it. Not only that, you might get some nut that walk up into a store and blow everybody up. So, try living day to day with that. I think problem is people have loss respect for each other, not enough love for thy fellow man, woman, child. Need to walk more in GOD shoes min by min, day by day.

1trugent

Yeah and we are a lot safer than the Democratic world of Richmond County, HYPO!

HYPOCRITES 08

I do not care one way or the other. You can build a fence around your little Utopia and never leave it.

FallingLeaves

I did notice Richmond County voted overwhelmingly Democrat and Columbia County overwhelmingly Republican. I was surprised at the huge difference, except that I notice some McCain supporters in Richmond County had a hard time carving out enough time from their jobs to vote early, many of them had to leave before they could vote and hope they could come back another day, or election day.

corgimom

Yeah, a black man between the ages of 25-30 is joining a gang for the first time so he's being initiated. Right.

STHS_REBELS

icemanw83 was right. Buy a gun and carry it around and people won't start shooting. They will be scared the person may have a gun and not blow any one away.

icemanw83

Well considering that the people in the middle east carry AK's instead of 45's it's a little bit different. Because if you saw me on the street you wouldn't know that I had a gun on me. Plus if someone is going to walk into a store a blow everyone up, they're going to do it regardless of if they are licensed to carry a gun or not. So you're point means nothing. It takes a lot of effort to get a concealed carry permit. They don't let just anybody have one. So either go get one or risk getting killed by a punk with nothing else to do. A responsible, armed population is the worst nightmare of an oppressive government. Why do you think that the second amendment was written. In fact is was the second thing the founding fathers thought about.

MtnMan

You folks in Gerogia and South Carolina may as well get use to having Obama in the White House. After all of your lousy Republican Presidents you wouldn't know a good President if you saw one....Those of us who handed him a mandate are looking forward to a great experience in the country....A Good President. He is already taking charge and getting rid of some of the lousy Bush programs....

MtnMan

The Republican Party is Dead in The New England States, according to an article I read in the Chronicle today....Good News!

mutt

MtnMan you may want to go back to the mountains. There hasn't been a republican Pres since Reagan, just RINOs. As for Obama taking charge and getting rid of anything, that is BS. He is President elect, he will take charge in January. He isn't in charge of anything except forming a cabinet yet. And he has no executive power to get rid of anything until January. I just hope he governs from the platform he ran on (lower taxes, cutting Gov't programs, transparency in Gov't, welfare to work, personal accountability and responsibility, cutting wasteful gov't spending), he will be more conservative than Bush by far. It's OK MtnMan, I don't blame you for not knowing that your guy doesn't take over the moment the election is over, or for not understanding the workings of government, the educational system stinks in the Appalachians. Poor ignorant thing...........awwwwwwwww!

cm

DoubleD.. I feel sorry for your family, having to live with a cold-hearted, ignorant person like you. You don't know anything about the situation of the young man who was shot while sitting in his car. If you have never heard of people getting shot for no reason, why don't you go down to that area, park your car, sit there long enough and lets see what happens. I'm not a mind reader, so we have no idea why this punk opened the car door, stuck a gun this young man's face, which in turn, this brave young man grab the gun to try to take it from the punk and protect the friend that was in the car, and that's when the shooting started. Maybe he was being robbed or maybe it was a drugged up street thug, just out looking for trouble. Either way, the result is, this young man is still in hospital with serious injuries and he is someone's child, brother, friend and grandchild. Maybe you don't have family that cares about you, and I can understand why, but this young man does. GET A LIFE, YOU IGNORANT BASTARD!!!!!!!
