ATLANTA --- There was a 63 percent increase in illegal immigrants deported from Georgia and the Carolinas in the 12 months ending in October, and thousands of criminals were tagged for removal from the country upon their release from prison, federal officials said Thursday.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Atlanta Field Office of Detention and Removal carried out a record 17,955 deportation orders, compared with 11,006 the previous year, officials said.
They were among more than 40,000 people the field office processed in the three states during the 2008 fiscal year.
With help from state and local authorities, ICE said it identified 9,182 illegal immigrants who were incarcerated. Georgia led the way with more than 4,700.
In addition, the agency began removal proceedings against another 7,000 criminals in state, local and federal jails and prisons, an increase from 3,722 in 2007.
The agency also said fugitive teams in the three states arrested 1,938 people who had been ordered deported by immigration judges but failed to comply.

This is a great start, but a few years too late. If GA authorties would like to improve on their current performance, I would recommend a trip to the Barnyard Flea Market any Saturday or Sunday. A couple of city buses should do the trick. No one else is using them anyway. Our goal should be deportation of 100% of illegal immigrants.
all it will take is to let all the employer know that for every illegal alien found in their employment it will cost them $25,000 and ignorance of the law is not an excuse. if any citizen either naturalized or otherwise were to break the law and then claim ignorance that would not be allowed and we would be prosecuted anyway, so why should employers get away with employing illegal aliens either knowingly or unknowingly, it is there responsibility to find out!!!!!! also CUT OFF ALL ASSISTANCE, FOOD STAMPS, EDUCATIONAL OR MEDICAL BENEFITS, IT THEY WANT TO HAVE CHILDREN FINE, LET THEM GIVE BIRTH THEN HAVE THEM ON THE NEXT BUS, TRAIN OR PLANE BACK ACROSS THE BORDER. ALSO PUNISH ANY LANDLORD WHO IS OR WILL RENT TO THEM, GOOD LANDLORDS WILL RUN BACKROUND CHECK AND REQUEST CREDIT AND POLICE REPORTS ANYWAY SO TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE COST IS IRRELIVANT AND NOT IMPORTANT.
