Augusta man arrested in weekend stabbing

Andel Miguel Robertson, 35, of the 1500 block of Twiggs Street in Augusta, was arrested Thursday morning and charged in the weekend stabbing death of Frank R. Jackson.

Investigators said Mr. Robertson was taken into custody shortly before 11 a.m. Police believe Mr. Jackson was stabbed after he tried to break up an argument between Mr. Robertson and an unidentified woman.

Panel to mull proposal about property changes

Columbia County planning commissioners agreed Thursday to pursue an amendment that would require certain landowners -- properties zoned as special districts, planned unit developments or planned development districts -- to advertise for a public hearing involving major changes planned for their property.

Major changes would be considered those that increase a property's density, or amount of development.

The proposed amendment will ultimately need the county Board of Commissioners' approval and will be discussed again at the Planning Commission's 6:30 p.m. Dec. 18 meeting in Evans Government Center Auditorium.

Two men are indicted in separate killings

Two men were indicted Tuesday by the Richmond County grand jury in separate murder cases.

Earnest Arthur Lane, 46, of Langley, was indicted on malice and felony murder involving the Aug. 21 stabbing death of Seth Holmes Taylor.

Crawford James Jackson, 57, of the 700 block of Harford Road, was indicted on malice and felony murder in the Aug. 7 stabbing death of Phillip Wallis Scott.

State's Bar Pro Bono Program to give clinic

The South Carolina Bar Pro Bono Program will sponsor a free legal clinic from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Aiken County Public Library, 314 Chesterfield St. S.W.

Fall festival at Graystone Ranch

Graystone Ranch Wildlife Educational Center will hold its Fall Festival on Nov. 14-16.

The weekend will include a petting zoo, hayrides, games, crafts, animal attractions including the tigers, a turkey shoot, music, cloggers and martial arts demonstrations.

The event begins with a DJ party and a band at 5 p.m. Nov. 14.

On Nov. 15, the fall festival opens at 10 a.m. and a dance will take place from 5 p.m. to midnight. Hours for Nov. 16, are 1-8 p.m.

The cost is $10 per day, $15 for the weekend. Children get in free per paying adult and each additional child pays $5.

All proceeds benefit animal rescue. Graystone Ranch is at 1017 McManus Road in Hephzibah.
