AUGUSTA, Ga. - A. Marvin McClure, 90, husband of the late Leahman Fair Wall McClure, peacefully passed on Saturday, November 1, 2008. Mr. McClure was born in Columbia, SC and raised there in the Epworth Children's Home. He spent 35 years in service of the U.S. Government including the WPA, in the US Navy during WW II as a tail-gunner in the Torpedo Bomber Squadron of the USS Hornet and USS Enterprise air groups (awarded the US Navy Air Medal); special agent with the U.S. Department of State, Chief Investigator-Operations branch for the US Information Agency, and Executive Officer of the US Information Agency with tours in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Saigon, Vietnam and the Soviet Union. Upon retirement in 1971, he became a real estate broker and appraiser in Florida and South Carolina, fully retiring in 1981. He has been a resident of Columbia, SC and Augusta, GA for the last 16 years. Family members include his two sons T. Mark McClure and W. Keith McClure (Ellen). He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Laura Fair McClure (Dino Diacciati), Elizabeth M. Gaccione (Jeffrey), Patrick Mark McClure, Anderson Fraser McClure, Samuel Keith McClure, and Mary Taylor McClure; and his good friend Sheila Ruffin. A private service will be held at a later date at Lake Junaluska in North Carolina.
