GLOVERVILLE, S.C. - Mrs. Jessie Rucker Barden, 88, wife of thirty- nine years to the late William L. Barden, Sr. and daughter of the late Hampton and Rosa Black Rucker, died Saturday, November 1st, 2008. Born in and a lifelong resident of Aiken County, SC, she retired from Seminole Mills after thirty years of service as a Cloth Grader. Miss Jessie was a member of Gloverville First Baptist Church, Gloverville, SC, where she was affectionately known as Granny, and she was a member of the Dorcass Sunday School Class. Family members include a daughter, Martha Barden Bledsoe, (Mike) Gloverville, SC; son, W.L. Barden, (Sue) Warrenville, SC; grandchildren, April Turner, Chris Barden, (Suzanne) and Julie Downs, (Keith) great-grandchildren, Landon Barden, Katie Downs, and Carlee Downs. Although she had only two biological children, Miss Jessie loved and raised Lila Padgett, Bo Rucker, and the late Richard Rucker, as if they were her own. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 5th, 2008, at 3 o'clock at Gloverville First Baptist Church, Gloverville, SC, with Dr. Joe Youngblood and Rev. Buster Youngblood officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Bath, SC. Pallbearers will be Jerry Rucker, Brandon Rucker, Ricky Rucker, Grady Padgett, and Bo Rucker. The family has asked that memorials in memory of Miss Jessie be made to Gloverville First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 157 Gloverville, SC 29828. Friends may call at the home of W.L. and Sue Barden.
