Palin has run things, Obama hasn't

  • Follow Letters

I must write in response to the letter "President Palin is a chilling idea."

I can't understand how people keep trying to say that we should be worried about the possibility of Sarah Palin being president if anything happens to John McCain. I am not worried in the least bit about that. Anyone with half a brain should realize that of the four people involved in this election, Sarah Palin is the only one that is experienced in any kind of executive work.

Senators or congressmen don't run anything. They just vote yes or no, (or, in Obama's case, he votes present) on ideas that are brought forth. Mrs. Palin, however has run a state; and she has done a remarkable job at it. As far as anyone knows, Obama has never so much as run a neighborhood watch campaign.

I am voting for experience, morals, and a return of this country to the principles on which it was founded.

Mike Stowell, New Ellenton, S.C.

Mike; Let's be realistic. Palin's qualifications are mayoral at best. Not sure what you mean by return to the principles. We have not been there yet. Most of this country's existence was a pretend state of compliance with those principles (yes I'm talking about slavery, jim crow, women rights, voting rights, civil rights, do you get the picture?). Obama's election pushes us towards fully complying with the principles. Not sure where you equate McCain with morals. If I'm not mistaken he left his disabled wife for another women, got caught up in a scandal, a chronic liar and filled with negativity. Hopefully he will retire after he loses this election.

realistineducation

how difficult is it to 'run' the state of alaska, any idiot could do that. the woman does not have the experience needed to run a country. she may have the taxpayer funded clothes, but not the intelligence to carry out the job. can't wait til tuesday night!!!

JesusIsComing

Yes, running a State is easy - that's why former Governor's bcs2k, TrukinRanger, and realistineducation are now writing message board posts to the Augusta Chronicle. But Mike Stowell is wrong in his premise. John McCain has executive experience also. He was the US Commander of the Hanoi Hilton and commanded a training squadron for the Navy.

The writer seems to be saying "Don't Worry, Be Happy". Either the letter writer has a point or the local authorities haven't found all the Meth labs yet. There is a trend here if you look hard enough.

1. George Washington
2. Abraham Lincoln
3. Franklin D. Roosevelt
4. Ronald Wilson Reagan
5. George W. Bush
6. Sarah Palin

I'm still feeling a little worried about a President Palin.

shivas

She also has strong foreign policy experience with that Putin getting into her airspace.

patriciathomas

Reading the posts of the so brilliant left makes it clear that misogynistic attitudes have a clear home. No wonder Hillary is on the sideline. I wonder if your wives would feel the same way.

fred1217

That's not fair Patricia. All I'm saying is that I knew of Jack Kennedy, and Sarah Palin is no Jack Kennedy no matter what the radical and desparate right says. (To borrow a few lines from a person that was qualified to be VP and President.

patriciathomas

Palin is ready to be president and to say she isn't is just silly. She isn't the most qualified of the 4 candidates, but she's running for Vice President. McCain is much more qualified. If Obama was looked at through the same lens as Palin, I'm certain he wouldn't look nearly as good as he does now.

I4PUTT

I hope each of you will make an informed vote on Tuesday. Based on the incredible lack of honesty & common sense I see here, that ain't likely. Pretty speeches ain't gonna cut it.....

factchecker

Sarah Palin's friends hunt, fish, and contribute to society. Obama's friends rob, steal, and blow up the Pentagon.

1941

factchecker, at least you know what to expect. when Obama get in the white house!!LOL

patriciathomas; No offense -- but you are talking like someone with a highly idealistic view of the world but has yet to leave the city one was born & raised in. I'm sure this is NOT the case but that's how you sound. Clearly you don't receive many resumes and make hiring decisions. There is NO way Mccain or Palin can be offered a high level job if the decision was based purely on their own merits. Both need to have a connect or money to influence people. Mccain might even threaten and intimidate his way to succes. Wow -- what a maverick. McCain and Palin are academically ungifted -- and yes -- academic acumen is a significant requirement to handle the role of President and Vice-President. Fortunately the winner will be Senator Obama -- a man with unquestionable academic success, a man who has "given back" to the society (community), a calm man, a solid family man and a man who inspires. Go Obama! He's change we can believe in!

Sarah Palin has qualifications and Obama does NOT. Realistineducation, if you think it is so easy to be a governor, then why haven't you run for office? Not that anyone would vote for you, but you seem to think being a governor is a no-brainer task. Furthermore, if you are so great, why aren't you one of Perdue's advisors? Get your head out of the sand and admit that Obama couldn't even wash dishes with intructions in front of his face.

convertedsoutherner

What academic qualifications does NObama have? Remember his academic, birth, and other records can't be released, because your future potus won't let them be released. How many more questionable acquaintances 'friends', family and whatever else will eventually show up? To say NObama, the community agitator, is qualified to be potus - is laughable.

cparker

convertedsoutherner...Aren't you telling lies this morning. You know that Obama's birth record and academic record are very public. If you don't like Obama, just say it! Don't get on here and outright lie as though people have not reviewed Obama's credentials. You may not appreciate his credentials, but please don't tell ridiculous and outrageous lies...

patriciathomas

bcs2k, you have totally bought the Obama spin without confirming any of the facts. I understand your point of view. It's posted on this site every day. Have you read his ramplan? Have you heard the denial of policies and their initiation by the Obama campaign? Have you noticed Obama has come down firmly on both sides of every issue, regardless of his apparent stand? (deniability) He's a very eloquent speaker, but his message is shallow and ONLY implied, allowing each listener to form his own opinion.

LynxRHot

cparker....I'll be the first to say it....I DON'T LIKE OBAMA AND I HOPE HE LOSES! McCain/Palin 2008

Has anyone ever determined exactly what the criteria is for a candidate to be "qualified". If it is overall experience in the workings of our current governmental system they would have to be ranked as: #1. McCain, #2. Biden, #3. Palin, #4. Obama. There is no objective evidence or record to contest this ranking. This election is not about "experience" it is about faith and trust and that has been the focus of the Obama campaign. If Obama is elected he will be our first "cult" president because he has convinced enough people to believe in him to win the election.

jack234

With mcCain and Palin in the whitehouse, nothing would get done. They would just wake each morning and try to out maverick each other everyday. I think the maverick thing went to her head, not to mention the shake-up washington thing. I would rather the first female VP be someone that we had heard of before two months ago. Obama was chosen by the judgement of many. Palin was chosen by the judgement of one. End of story for me.

jack234

Experience is off the table. Its all about who has a better vision for America. McCain is just too much "old school" with no new ideas. I'll go with Obama listening to Warren Buffet on the economics and Powell on foreign affairs. LOL

Posted by realistineducation on Mon Nov 3, 2008 4:14 AM .................................................. My question is if you are intelligent enough to know the difference between "taxpayer funded" and "campaign funded". I suspect that you became a "realist in education" when you dropped out of highschool.

Thankyou j234 for your profession of faith. If your cult leader gets elected I hope you aren't disappointed when you start experiencing the effects of his snakeoil and koolaid cocktail.

We should all listen to patriciathomas and the other right-wing supporters. Just look at what they have given us the last 8 years.

jack234

Look like they want us to have enough faith to give them 4 more years to get it right. I, for one, don't want to take that gamble. LOL I'll take my chances with fresh ideas. When you're in a hole and trying to get out, you don't dig the hole deeper.

shamrock

jack234 ... say it right if you're going to say anything. You're willing to GAMBLE with fresh ideas that are untested ... in fact ideas that are statements witout substance. This moronic babblings of people trying to claim John McCain is four more years of Bush are absurd. John McCain is nore more George Bush than you are Barack Obama. By the way ... use of LOL, for those who keep using it, is juvenile ... at best ... when commenting on these letters. Try act grown up if you want to visit a grownup area!

jack234

Was that comment from a grownup? By whose standards? LOL,LOL,LOL. and I'll throw in a TOOT,TOOT, for the Obama Express as it pulls into the oval office. You haven't seen juvenile yet, wait to you hear Ellie Mae Palin (of hillbilly fame) comments after Nov. 4th. Now, you have a blessed day with LOL.
TOOT,TOOT.

jack234

That't why they call them fresh ideas, because they're untested. I see I have to break things down to your level of comprehension. You might better stay in your own circles with a TOOT,TOOT,TOOT. One more, TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT.

jack234

The democratic party is more inclusive and people realize that and that is why they flock to it. Lets all pray that Our President, Mr. Barack Obama have a successful 4 years. If he is successful then the country is successful and we all love our country and new president. LOL,LOL,LOL,LOL,LOL and LOL
