AIKEN, S.C. - Having heard and heeded the call of his Master, Mr. James C. Cato departed this life Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at the Aiken Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 12 Noon, Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Cumberland A.M.E. Church with Rev. Moses Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Jessamine Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Friday, October 31, 2008 from 6 PM-7 PM at Jackson- Brooks Funeral Home. Mr. Cato was a dedicated member of Cumberland AME Church, graduate of Allen University, veteran of US Army, member of Aiken School Board, the Masonic Lodge, Habitat for Humanity, Kappa Alpha Psi, the Ambassador's Club, and the NAACP. He retired from E.I. Dupont in 1989. Those left to cherish his memories: are his loving and faithful wife, Martha W. Cato of the home; one daughter, Audrey (Edwin) Thomas, Macon, GA; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six Godchildren; two brothers- in-law; two sisters-in-law; one uncle and a host of other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions to Cumberland AME Building Fund, 111 Kershaw Street, SE., Aiken, SC 29801. Mr. Cato will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 10 AM until the hour of service. Friends may call at the residence or at Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home beginning 3 pm Friday.
