I voted for the Constitution

  • Follow Letters

For the first time in my 26-year voting history, I voted in favor of the U.S. Constitution and America's national sovereignty by voting for none of the Republican nominees for federal office.

Don't get me wrong: I still mostly believe in the national and state Republican platforms. But when nominees uphold neither the party platform nor the Constitution, it seems they understand no language other than votes against them.

While I'm not a single-issue voter, stands on these two key issues summarized for me who was unworthy of my vote: illegal alien amnesty and the $700 billion taxpayer-funded bailout.

Since both John McCain and Barack Obama favored amnesty and the bailout, I voted for constitutionalist Chuck Baldwin for president.

Since Lindsey Graham voted for amnesty and the bailout, I voted for Bob Conley for U.S. Senate.

Since Gresham Barrett flip-flopped on the bailout -- first voting against it, and then voting for it -- I wrote in Mike Vasovski for the District 3 U.S. House seat.

As the U.S. Constitution establishes our country's form of government, the powers assigned to the three branches of government, and protection of our God-given freedoms, I urge you to vote for constitutionalists on Tuesday.

A noble concept, Mr. Simon, but when Obama is president you will see how well the Constitution is protected by your vote. You WILL regret throwing your vote away.

JesusIsComing

If Barack Obama becomes President and he finds out how you voted (and he WILL find out), his people will be knocking on your door. The Patriot Act will take on new meaning in an Obama administration - just ask Joe the Plumber!

The only vote that is wasted is a vote not cast!

thrilled to hear

Mr. Simon, I comend you on what you did. I agree with you on this matter. The issue is that there aren't more people that will vote for what they feel is the best, instead of the "lessor of two evils" But then again, what will the president reall do. It is the House and Senate that do the work. The president is a Statesman. but he will get blamed or take all the credit, but they can not make policy. Only suggest it.

It's a shame we aren't all so principled. Well done Mr Simmons.

Bizarro

You could have just as well as voted for Bizarro! It would be just as wasted a vote. Although I too agree with your sentiment.

Great to read a LTE from someone who has actually read the Constitution and given it some thought.

If you believe so strongly in the Constitution and fear that President Obama is going to destroy it, you better join the ACLU.

Bizarro

The ACLU has some good points and a great goal. I agree with religious freedom and separation of church and state, legalizing pot, coke, and heroin, freedom of speech, abolition of capital punishment, but they go off course with immigration, reproductive rights (abortion and providing legal aid for pedophiles) and affirmative action.

Bizarro

I think much of our problems comes from the myth that all men are created equal. Where the heck did that come from. Certainly not a judeo-christian ideology, nor any biological fact. You can't make us equal by economic means either, and an education doesn't level the playing field either. It just isn't natural.

No, I don't think the ACLU is anti-christian. I just think they're against having christian beliefs forced on society. If you have religious beliefs forced on society, then you sort of end of like Iraq and Iran.

Bizarro

They support freedom from religion...I mean freedom "OF" religion. Ooops musta been a Freudian slip. And they support the desparation of church and state. I mean separation of church and state. It's complicated...they're lawyers. They fight for the freedom of illegal immigrants and pedophiles, which I "guess" is a good cause????? Hey, wait a minute.

Well Michael, I am fairly certain your unreasonable vote was nothing more than a give-away vote to B. Obama (possibly the leading candidate this year). It is absolutely worthless to cast votes for relative unknowns in any presidential election. You MUST pick between the better of the two leading candidates running. In this election there is barely any "better" of the two...however, I'll sure not give any one candidate a "free" pass to the White House. Assume some responsibility for trying to influence the way America is governed during the next 4 years. You've certainly failed this time, Sir!
