JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Mary Vivian Posey Hale, 89, formerly of 405 E. 8th Ave., Johnson City, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Appalachian Christian Village following a lengthy illness. A native of Ward, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Sadie Lee Bruce Posey. Mrs. Hale was gifted in many ways including, as a seamstress, cooking and welcoming her family into her home. She was the entertainer of the family and an expert homemaker. Mrs. Hale was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church where she and her husband were directors of the Young Married Couples Class for many years. She graduated from Hepzibah High School, Hepzibah, Georgia. She attended secretary school in Hepzibah then worked for Arthur Houser Architect Firm in Augusta, GA. She worked at Holston Defense in Kingsport, TN prior to working for 33 years as a Representative with Stanley Products Company. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Emory B. Hale in 2005; her aunt who raised her, Jamie B. Simons; brothers, Jack Posey and Bill Posey. Survivors include a son, Emory Lee Hale and wife, Vola Jeanne, Graniteville, South Carolina; daughter, Marianne Deneen and husband, Fred, Johnson City; seven grandchildren, Karyn Rose, Greeneville, Angela Street, Walter Deneen, both of Johnson City, Scott Deneen, Stanley, NC, Chris Deneen, Lynchburg, VA, Josh Deneen, Hwaji City, Japan, Ann-Marie Higdon, Johnson City; eleven great-grandchildren, Matthew Rose, Kara Rose, Krista Rose, Ashton Street, Taylor Thomas, Micah Deneen, Emma Deneen, Andrew Deneen, Ellen-Anne Deneen, Elizabeth Deneen; half-brother, Floyd Posey, Arizona; half-sister, Joanna Lauesen, California and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mrs. Hale will be conducted at 3:00 PM Friday, October 31, 2008 from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Warfield officiating. Interment will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 - 3:00 PM prior to the service in the East Parlor of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central Baptist Church, 300 N. Roan Street, Johnson City, TN 37604 or the charity of your choice. The family extends a special thank you to the Appalachian Christian Village Hearts of Gold workers who took care of her for many years and Adventa Hospice staff.
