Why McCain became my choice

  • Follow Letters

Will someone please define the word "racism" for me? I plan on voting for John McCain because of his experience, morals, patriotism, military service and no known past indiscretions. He may not have been my first choice, but he's certainly my choice now.

Barack Obama was for years a member of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's hate-America church and a close friend of terrorist William Ayers. Obama has little legislative experience, no foreign policy experience, and very little domestic policy experience, except that taught him by ACORN.

I know some people would vote for a Democrat right out of prison and some blacks will vote for Obama just because he's black. This seems to me to be a definition of "racism."

We survived Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, and I'm sure we can survive Obama too.

I realize a president alone cannot pass a spending bill, declare war or cause a depression, but I also know at this time we need a leader we can respect.

Put up a McCain sign in your

Put up a McCain sign in your yard and you will have people call you racist. It has nothing to do with race unless you are voting for the person because of the color of his or her skin of which amazingly enough many blacks are. Going and registering just for this election and coming out in droves in advance, etc. as well as flat out saying it on tv and in person. Now, I don't believe most blacks are doing this but it certainly appears most uneducated blacks are and that is ashame. However, it should be noted that blacks in general vote about 90% democratic so it wouldn't matter who is was, they would most likely vote for the democratic nominee. It is those that don't normally vote, are just registering to vote or flat out say they are voting for him because he is black that are the most troubling. Frankly, Alan Keys, a great black republican would probalby be better than McCain but the worst the republicans have to offer would be better than Obama and his views on taxes, welfare, larger government, etc. His policies are what keeps poor people of all races exactly where he wants them - dependent on him and the government for the handout and it is disgusting.

Must we really stay in Iraq as long as it takes to push our "democratic way" on another culture? Support Our Troops/End the War.

Mr Sarver: Rev. Wright, and
Unpublished

Mr Sarver: Rev. Wright, and his church members do not hate America. Never have any member (at least known) done anything to harm America, but whites seem to think that his observations demonstrate hate. Wrong! He spoke the truth about this country and her policies. Not hate. He spoke about unequal justice and a wicked era of American history. Not hate. And until you can get your arms around that issue, understanding racism will continue to be elusive in your mind.

Unfortunately the racism is

Unfortunately the racism is on both sides of the coin. I am by NO means an Obama supporter but I didn't know just how racist my brother-in-law was until this election. He lives in Ohio and has been a lifelong Democrat, something we have never seen eye to eye on. Anyway he has always voted a straight democratic ticket and this year he is voting republican and I should be happy about that right? The only reason he is voting for McCain is because Obama is black. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad another vote is going to my candidate but at the same time I'm sad to see that someone can give up their values so easily because of racial intolerance. I'm equally sad that it is also happening on the other side. I wasn't raised that way. I was raised to believe that your core values and how you apply them are what defines who you are. And mark my words, we will see problems at the polls all across America because of the differences in this election particularly when we should be celebrating that we have the right so many others around the world do not have. The right to vote.

justus, Sorry, when you

justus, Sorry, when you accuse White America of spreading drugs in Black neighborhoods, of inventing AIDS to kill Blacks, of secretly plotting to keep you down, when you accuse America of causing 9/11, and you do this in every sermon (in one way or another) for 20 plus years - it tends to have an impact on the hearers. After listening to such sermons filled with hate for White people, do you suppose a Black manager or CEO treated his White employees (if he or she ever hired them to begin with) a little differently than his Black employees? An honest answer would be that of course they were treated differently. This is racism and this is prejudice. Barack Obama's ideas, attitudes, and policies were shaped in this toxic environment. He revelas it in moments of candor when he calls his beloved white grandmother (who reportedly was on her death bed and he took a week to finally go see) a "typical white person" or when he claims normal Whites "cling to the guns and religion" for fear of people who are different. Racism is racism whether it comes from the lips of a Democrat down south or a fancy man from Chicago.

Yeah Jim I can see theres not

Yeah Jim I can see theres not a bit of racial animosity in you!! Yeah you are voting for a man with high Republican Morals, afterall his adultery was a while back, A true patriot, who only broke the Code of Conduct which he swore to uphold unto death, a man with a military career plastered with being chosen for assignments and schooling based on his fathers rank, and no past indescretions other than getting his wife out of a charge of stealing drugs from a childrens program. And by the way you are wrong on your final paragraph. One, the president can deploy troops on his own, for a limited war. Two it is apparent that this president with his trade agreements has started us on a glide path to a depression. Three, a spending bill only becomes a "spending bill" with the approval and signature of the president.

What if things were switched

What if things were switched around? Think about it... Would the country's collective point of view be different? Ponder the following: What if the Obama had paraded five children across the stage, including a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenagedaughter? What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review? What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class? What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee? What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his standards? What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married? What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization? What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard? What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five?(The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused ofcorruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of thelarger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.)

Continued..What if McCain was

Continued..What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker? What if Obama couldn't read from a teleprompter? What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes? What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many occasions, a serious anger management problem? What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer distribution? What if the Obama had adopted a white child? You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflectedreality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as closeas they are? This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference. All 3 from an email sent to me..original author unknown.

Paricia, darling, who

Paricia, darling, who provides you with your moon shine, Duane Gish maybe?
Dissman, thanks. These reactionary clowns gloss over that under Clinton-Gore we stock holders made money, wages were up and there was less poverty.Oh, they prefer the little private help to the poor over the livable maintenance government provides; they regard the poor as parasites as Stalin did the kulaks.
Clinton-Gore proudly take claim for their getting Congress to enact the administration's budget policies whereas Reagen-Bush-Dole deny any responsibility at all for theirs, stating that Pres. Reagan had no power in the budget. They claim that Democrats reneged on their promise to make budget cuts for each dollar of tax decrease, while Democrats should have done something there, they could not cut essential items. Clinton-Gore cut items with reinventing government. O.-B. will further that process with a sharp redoing of programs, measured on effectiveness, not ideology.
Fellow liberals and Democrats, reason will return to the White House with science-based policies, including demand-side economics. "Do unto the least of these... To whom much is given, much is required.... " Fairness!

So laking, in 6 years we inherited a depressed economy, had N.Y.City attacked, had the economy take a serious dive, endured a serious attack from within our congress and was still able to recover and have the lowest unemployment ever and the best preforming stock market ever even though we only had a slight control of the house and didn't get the slight control of the senate until the '02 election. After congress moved to the far left, with a slight control, things mysteriously got very bad. Coincidence? If you wish. Want more of the same? Obama '08

Patricia, More of your

Patricia, More of your baseless mumbo-jumbo. With only a slight majority, how can any congress move to a "far left" or a "far right" agenda for that matter ? This financial disaster was in the making for quite some time due to the greed and mismanagement of the party that was in control for most of that time. No matter how you try to spin it, the Bush administration and a Republican controlled congress historically will be held responsible. And by-the-way, let's get back to racism question. Have you noticed that haven't been a response to Coalminerpa's or Factchecker's posts? I'm sure you have some sophmoric rhetoric to add to the discussion.

As it is; Black folks vote

As it is; Black folks vote for the candidate who has the ability to lead, inspire and motivate others to succeed. This can be determined by careful analysis of character, experience, accomplishments, goals and objectives. It is an assessment that does not take years to figure out (for example it took years for the supporters of BW Bush to recognize that he was not presidential material). It does not take weeks to figure out (for example, many non-blacks gave Palin high marks from the start but weeks later they discovered her weaknesses). There is a saying in the black community "keep it real". If you have 7+ homes and a wife worth well north of 100 million you can't go around calling the other guy (a man from humble beginnings) elite. These are the disconnects that black people observe. These are among the reasons why WE have not -- since the 80s -- supported a Prez candidate who left the office in worse shape than he found it (check the recession brought on under Bush 1 and 2). You have issues with black Obama voters. The nation is on the slope towards socialism and the black vote did not put there. History shows we exhibited better judgement. Did you vote for Bush?

coalminerpa; You have posted

coalminerpa; You have posted significant information that differentiates Obama from McCain. You will not find any McCain supporter with the courage to address why they really are not "connecting the dots". Whites have always said that jobs should go for the best qualified applicant. In "their" world that is usually a white person. They always complain about how a job was given to the "less qualified black". Now that the game is flipped and the best qualified is black, they want to find an excuse or problem. Too late. It's not gonna happen. Cheating will not be allowed this time. Better deal with it.

bcs2k, I want Republican

bcs2k, I want Republican folks to really think rather than just run with the GOP crowd. McCain and Palin are, in effect, trashing the GOP yet expect Republicans to vote for them. Strange. Why would Republicans vote for someone who is against what they believe? Right in front of our eyes is a man who can and will change the direction of this country from a corpse of war, economic depression, greed, lies and deceit to wholeness, peace, pride and prosperity. That man is Barack Obama with Joe Biden and all citizens at his side. Is he a god or a savior? No. But he is the best man for the job! And Obama will be one of the best presidents ever!

If the GOP fear a Democratic

If the GOP fear a Democratic President and Congress it is because they fear that what they have done to us and to this country will be done to them. We need to put a stop to their draining the coffers of this country. In the last 8 years the Republican White House have run this country into the ground and thousands of our young men and women lie in their graves. The GOP has robbed us of a generation. Over what? Greed and oil. They should be afraid, not of us, but of Whom they will eventually have to make an account to for their deeds. For the GOP to question ANY Democrat's relationship with God, or our loyalty to the United States of America after their performance in the past 8 years shows their total self centeredness and sheer state of panic.
