AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Tuesday, October 21, 2008, Mrs. Edith Dobbins Carter, 86, wife of the late Homer Allen Carter. Mrs. Carter was a native of Landrum, SC and had resided in Augusta since 1946. She was a Veteran of the US Marine Corps Women's Reserve during WWII. She was retired as a Personnel Supervisor with the Civil Service at Fort Gordon and a member of the Rosemary Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Carter was also a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Family members include nieces and nephews: Susan Carter, Coy E. Carter, James E. Carter, Lynn Carter, Richard Carter, Michael Carter, Jon Carter, Virginia Sloan, Dan Dobbins, Katherine Baldwin, Rebecca Dobbins, Thomas Dobbins, Jimmy Dobbins, Eugene Dobbins, Fred Dobbins, Joe Dobbins, Brenda Bell and Steve Dobbins and loving and devoted friends: Gail Graczyk and Angie Mikles. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph B. Dobbins and Gladys Ellen Dobbins; brothers: Baxter Eugene Dobbins, Carroll Dobbins, H. Lee Dobbins, Leonard Dobbins; sister: Marianne Dobbins and nieces and nephew: Joyce Powell, Betty Mullinax and Paul Dobbins. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 24, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. James Bland officiating. Pallbearers will be Thomas Dobbins, Jimmy Dobbins, Fred Dobbins, Joe Dobbins, Steve Dobbins and Coy E. Carter. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
