Pastor facing federal indictment resigns

WARRENTON, Ga . --- An embattled pastor, facing a multi-count federal indictment on tax-evasion charges in Maryland, has tenured his letter of resignation at First Baptist Church of Warrenton.

The Rev. Otis Ray Hope, who began serving as pastor earlier this year, submitted a letter of resignation to church officials Tuesday.

Attempts to contact the Rev. Hope for comment at his home in Columbia County were unsuccessful.

Longtime church member and Warrenton Mayor Tony Mimbs said, "I'm not surprised that he resigned. I stand by my previous statements. Our prayers are with Dr. Hope and his family at this time."

Mother charged in 2004 death of son

Police arrested a Saluda County woman Thursday involving her son's death four years ago.

Renata M. Hill, 27, of Chappells, S.C., is charged with unlawful neglect of a child, according to a news release.

Ms. Hill is accused of not rendering or seeking medical treatment for her 15-month-old son, Diquarious Gantt, on or near Oct. 24, 2004, according to an arrest warrant. Investigators think the child was injured when a steel door accidentally fell on him. He died of blunt force trauma, police said.

Can a mother love her child and not render or seek medical treatment? Hell no!

PatT, what's wrong with the names of the mother and her deceased baby? Just because you have a hard time reading and pronouncing them doesn't mean something is wrong. Sounds like you don't understand.

JohnQPublic
