Problem with Obama is ideology

Sameera V. Thurmond says that fear is running wild in conservative white America because an African-American may win the presidency.

As a conservative white American, I can tell you that my fear is that a liberal, anti-American socialist will be elected and freedom will be the casualty. And that socialist could be Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid or Barack Obama. The color is not important. If I could vote for Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell, Herman Cain, Lynn Swann or Michael Steele, I would be thrilled to do that. All of these men understand that freedom requires responsibility and self-reliance.

Ms. Thurmond goes on to say that white Americans were "taken aback" by the emancipation of slaves. Who does she think freed them? She says women are boldly having children without marriage. In general, how's that working out for the kids? I guess it's OK for kids to suffer if it allows you to poke a stick in the eye of society. Talk about working against your own best interest.

The left would prefer to make slaves of all of us by having the government take over our lives. You want to decry slavery, decry that!

She says it is disrespectful to use the term "that one." Just one more item to go on the list of things white people can't say or else be called racist. What a sensitive group Ms. Thurmond belongs to. However, it is fine to call conservative blacks Uncle Tom. Maybe they aren't allowed to be offended under liberal rules.

The real issue isn't race, it's philosophy. Whites and blacks who disagree with the Obama far-left wing of the party are subject to be stereotyped.

So Sameera, how about pulling up your baggy pants, getting a job and learning to speak properly? Oh, you don't like being stereotyped? Me either.

I wasn't aware that Mr.Hussein was either African-American or for that matter black. Last I checked he was mulatto, and his friends are yellow. They are all scared of the truth being told. Here is a recent story from his recent past (another group he claims to have no affiliation): http://worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=78945 . And for the point concerning children without marraige.....since when did that become honorable? The author brings to light just a fraction of BO's character flaws and the mindless masses flocking to him because of his perceived color. Do people really think voter regristration is up considerably among blacks because "their" candidate is a visionary? Let's be honest....

Great letter Pat.

When Herman Cain ran for Senate in Georgia, he got rhetoric as written by the editorial writer and only 26% of the vote. No one accused the other 74% for being racist because they voted for white men. Herman Cain held very conservative views and was a successful businessman and should have faired better and would have if he were white. He was well advertised and well known. Before you accuse "Sameera" of not having a job, I'd like to know how Pat VanHooser got her job. Was it through cronism and connections that Sameera did not have access to? Hypocrisy runs high and Conservative Values are very shallow. That's why the majority of the country wants change after eight years of failed, corrupt and misguided policies from a guy that was "Awarded" his job by the Supreme Court. People are also tired of being preached "Family Values" by men that are divorced three and four times and now have their trophey wives. Maybe Sameera wouldn't have to pull up her pants if the RNC spent $150,000 on her wardrobe to make her look conservative like they did for the "You bet Ya" lady.

Well said, Pat VanHooser!

It would be good to see an honest, valid comparison of personal campaign expenses so we could have some perspective on the issue instead of notoriously dishonest democrat spin. I'm sure that last summer the Palin family wasn't prepared for life on the campaign trail and that her wardrobe was not adequate for the demands of such a national campaign. Was $150.000 warranted? Evidently the person holding the McCain purse strings thought it was.

randon

Funny, the problem I have with McCain is ideology--I guess that's why we have elections.

Prez Obama will do with elections the same thing Americans did with self responsibility: forgeddabouddit.

Great letter...Well written.... Unfortunately the Obamaites will continue to keep their eyes shut and ears plugged...

Excellent letter Pat. Well said. Whining lefties will disagree with your assessment. Good.

Obama said, "Barack" in Swaille means, "THAT ONE," go figure. Better yet, Sameera V. Thurmond, just go. Boy Scout Ct. don't want you no mo'.

dashiel

Intelligently said, Ms. Van Hooser. Sameera V. Thurmond sounds like the name of a lawsuit being brought by one of Strom's secret cheer-run. I was FOR Obama till I discovered that reparations discriminate against people who have never been compensated for their legally paid-for and taxed-upon chattel.

Why do we insist on calling each other names and acting like the country will go to hell if the other guy wins? The beauty of America is that we can have these differences and still tolerate each other. We've survived despite all the poor leadership we have had over the years. Can't we have mature, intelligent discourse without belittling the other guy?

corgimom

Hoosier, finally, another moderate like me. I don't like all of what Obama says, I don't like all of what McCain says. But both sides have a viewpoint, and they are not 100% right, nor are they 100% wrong.

Bizarro

With a Dem controlled Congress and the likelyhood of a Dem prez the country will likely go to hell just like the last eight years people keep harping about. No balance of power as reasoned by our Constitution will lead to unabashed abuse by the Dems-like they did for 40 years so likely they haven't changed.

For seven years, Ayers and Obama -- among many others -- worked on funding for education projects, including some projects advocated by Ayers. While working on the Annenberg project, Obama and Ayers also served together on a second charitable foundation, the Woods Fund, and that among the Woods Fund recipients was the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's Trinity United Church where Obama had his church membership. Obama praised Ayers' book on the subject of juvenile justice in a 1997 Chicago Tribune review, calling it "a searing and timely account of the juvenile court system, and the courageous individuals who rescue hope from despair. AND Obama says he hardly knows him? BS!

I see the problem with the Republicans. They obsessed about Hillary Clinton for two years and now they are obsessing with Obama. Meanwhile, they forgot to look for a viable presidential candidate for themselves. The Right's hysterical rants about socialism and big government demonstrates that they don't know what they are talking about. For the past eight years we have had socialism for the wealthy and powerful. Yes, anybody who likes the Bush ideology would definitely have a problem with the Obama ideology.

dani

bs Almost half of the Dems wanted Hillary for their candidate. They got Obama. Both parties have a choice of viable candidates. The choice made in either party is not always the best one for the country.

Bizarro: you must have slept through civics class. It is certainly true our Constitution established mechanisms for "balance of power." The two most prominent are the tri-partite structure of the national government--executive, legislative, judicial--each with some power to check the others; and the federal principle which balances national and states power. Our Constitution NEVER established any balance of power in the sense you suggest--that the Presidency and the congress be controlled by different parties. (For one thing, political parties were not envisioned by the Founding Fathers. You must have slept through history class too.) And no "unabashed abuse" can occur in the Constitutional sense since anything which a Democratic President and Democratic congress does is subject to review and disqualification by the Supreme Court. You may not like what a Democratically controlled government would do, but that's a very different matter. What will be interesting will be seeing how conservatives react if and when the SC strikes down a legislatively created law. Will you all be crying "activist judges" then????

Actually, Obama is recieving more support from white males, catholics and white women that is unprecedented since before 1972 for the Democratic party. Obama's freshness and leadership versus McCain's erratic behavior. Not much of a choice.

drayclem

This is a clear, non-accusatory letter with solid facts for discussion. My sentiments very accurately. It is the lifelong political leanings and associations, not the skin color that is the most important thing to consider in this election. This letter should be spread all across the country and everyone with any hint of an open mind and desire to look at the full picture needs to digest it.

I hope the first place they start sharing the wealth is with your checkbook.

EEF, You misunderstood. I never said parties were established by the Constitution (that is one of my arguments why parties should be dissolved), but the sentiment of the Constitution is to have a balance of powers. With that logic Congress should pass a law that both Congress and Prez can't be of same political affiliation or the VP needs to be the loser prez candidate. I'm not a conservative-I'm a moderate independent-with more tendencies towards liberalism. Obama's economic plan will never allow me to vote for him, and if he were more a moderate centrist like Clinton I would support Obama like I did Clinton.

effete elitist liberal

drayclem: a "non-accusatory letter with solid facts"???? Don't think so...
Pat VanHooser, with her smear of Barach Obama as an "Anti-American socialist," paints her into the small group of zealous idiots led by Michelle Bachman and Sarah Palin. Bachman now almost certainly will lose her once safe Minnesota congressional seat after her horrific interview responses to Chris Matthews, and Palin now had the highest negatives of any VP candidate in recorded history and is one of the main reasons McCain is going down in flames. Oh, I forgot, it's all the media's fault. I admire John McCain for his military service and his senate career. Now, however, he just looks like a tired, confused old man, and that has nothing do do with his blotchy white skin.

effete elitist liberal

Bizarro: I'd be interested in just how you would characterize Obama's "economic plan." Would you care to spell it out? I'd settle for the one or two things, specifically, you dislike. My guess is that you either do not understand it, or you willfully distort it.
