APPLING, Ga. - Mrs. Joy Belle Connor Whitaker, 69, widow of Mr. Edgar Lee Whitaker, died Friday, October 17, 2008, in the Trinity Hospital. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kim Webb officiating. Burial will be in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens. Joy was a native of Harlem Ga., but had lived in Appling for most of her life. She was retired from Edward Jones Investments after 10 years. She was a devoted Branch Office Administrator and mentor for the company and her fellow Branch Office Administrators and Financial Advisors in the Augusta Metro area. She was a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church. She was a loving Mother and Friend. Joy was a breast cancer survivor for 14 years. In the last 2 years the cancer recurred and she fought a long, hard battle. She always had great faith and strength from the lord to sustain her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar, and her parents, Frank and Jannie Belle Poole Connor. She is survived by her daughter, Deidre Joy Gregory, Appling; James B. Connor, Clayton Googe and numerous cousins; special friends, Shirley Johnson and Cheryl Cook; and her very special feline, 'Miss Kitty'. Pallbearers will be Chris Connor, Greg Dechau, Ron Howard, John Cook, Bill Borders, and Bill Howard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shiloh United Methodist Church, 5970 Cobbham Rd, Appling, Ga. 30802 or the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, P.O. Box 224523, Dallas, Tx., 75222- 4523.
