Colonial history

Colonial Times: A Day to Remember will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Living History Park, 299 W. Spring Grove Ave., North Augusta.

The free event will feature demonstrations and exhibits such as pottery-making, blacksmithing, musket-firing and candle-making.

Church concert

The U.S. Army Chorus will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday at St. John's United Methodist Church, 104 Newberry St. N.W., Aiken.

The free concert is part of the Under the Steeple series. The chorus will be performing traditional patriotic standards as well as pop, Broadway, folk and classical music.

Playhouse comedy

The family comedy Over the River and Through the Woods will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday Saturday and Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, and at 3 p.m. Oct. 26, at the Aiken Community Playhouse, Washington Center for the Performing Arts, 126 Newberry St., Aiken.

Tickets are $17 for adults, $15 ages 60 and older, $12 students and $6 ages 11 and under.

Writers session

The James and Mary Oswald Distinguished Writers Series, featuring author Richard Bausch, will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Etherredge Center at the University of South Carolina Aiken, 471 University Parkway.

Spirits in the park

Spirits of Hallowed Eve tours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Living History Park, 299 W. Spring Grove Ave., North Augusta.

Honoring youths

The Augusta Chronicle is accepting nominations for Community Counts Youth of the Month. This award recognizes students of good academic standing who possess special talents in the arts, athletics or other areas. Youths who volunteer in their school, church or community also are worthy of nomination.

The child selected as Youth of the Month will be highlighted in an article in The Augusta Chronicle . A banquet will be held next summer to honor all 12 recipients of the award and their family members.

Nominees must be ages 8 to 18 and residents of the Aiken-Augusta area at the time of entry. Nomination forms are available online at augustachronicle.com/communitycounts.
