Can't afford socialism; be sure to vote!

  • Follow Letters

If the presidential debate didn't clearly define the differences between Sens. McCain and Obama, I don't know what will.

To any hard-working American, Mr. Obama's constant use of the phrase "spreading the wealth" should truly scare you. That's socialism, pure and simple. He wants to take more from those who work, and " spread it around" to "make it fair."

As a Republican, I will admit that Sen. McCain was not my first choice for the party's nomination. But I will make sure that I take the time to go vote for him on election day.

I strongly urge all of you who've seen the light -- Republicans, independents, and even Democrats -- to vote. Encourage your friends to vote.

Putting that Democratic empty suit in the White House will open a Pandora's box that we will one day regret.

We truly cannot afford to lose this election to Sen. Obama.

I'd like to hear more from "those" that have more to spread. We really haven't heard how the wealthy feel about this. And with all the yelling about folks on welfare that have 10 kids now? You wait...we haven't heard the half of it yet...

Here is the difference between Republicans and Democrats. Columbia County is run by Republicans and Richmond County is run by Democrats. Richmond County is going broke and Columbia County is prospering. Republican or Democrat - your choice.

Paws..

It's a "fact" factchecker but the prosperity is not caused bu being Republican. Most likely the predominance of the Democratic party in Richmond County is because many people are NOT prospering. A significant portion of the Democratic power base is among poor people who believe that Democrats will do something to help their situation. The dirty little secret is that Democrat politicians know that if there was a sudden rush of prosperity their power base would soon evaporate. Democrats thrive on poverty and misery while the more properous and better educated people tend ot be Republicans.

patriciathomas

The poor flock to the Democrat party because of give away programs promoted by the Dems. The give away programs remove incentive to achieve and that leads to less wealth which leads to using give away programs and the circle grows into the worst kind of slavery.

Paws..

Yes Pat, you get it.

WW1949

I have worked 40 years to get what I have and I be damned if I want to spread it around to those who do not work or scam the system.

factchecker

Paws - it IS caused by being a Republican. It's core values and hard work that make you successful. And the Dems core values suck.

randon

Scott, you think we don't regret the day we put the current Republican in the White House? Elect McCain and we'll have another war.

rbk

Another letter and comments I can agree with whole heartedly. Thanks.

Most large cities are run by Democrats. That speaks tons for the liberal government. No poor and no crime. ::

Randon, in case you missed it, John McCain has served in a war, and suffered as a P.O.W. Plus, he and Sarah Palin already have sons serving in Iraq. Obama hasn't served and doesn't have any children serving. Now, who do you think wants an end to this war or to avoid another more? Use some common sense man! It makes all the difference when its your own loved ones involved. I know because I've served in Iraq, and my brother is in Iraq now. He has told me personally that we can't just pull out like Obama wants and let the country fold like a deck of cards. Our enemies only respect one thing, strength!

As their empire grew, the Romans OVERtaxed the rich, and there are those who want us to do that. Rome invented the welfare state, and now the United States has one, too. Rome went into decline. When will we?

patriciathomas

so randon, you think President Bush caused the attack in New York? Or is it just that you think he should have just ignored the attack? Your comment, as usual, makes almost no sense.

what we cannot afford it 4 more years of Republicans. Just look at the economy!

SoonerorLater

"Spread the wealth around" is another term for "income redistribution" which equates to Socialist. It is true that more Democrats are "poor" because they know that handouts will soon follow, they are in it for what is best for them, not the country as a whole. When the economy is in a downward cycle, businesses cut hours which relate to the poor getting poorer. I spoke with someone last nite that said her hours were cut because of the economy, thus she has less money. BO wants to tax businesses and the "rich", which in turn will have a negative affect on the business cycle, which will have a negative impact on the working "poor". All this in the name of "fairness" as opposed to what is economically feasible. If BO wins the election, there will be alot of people with their hands stuck out the next day ready to recieve all that BO has "promised". Hard work, success, and reaping the rewards of your toil will be suppressed if the more money you make, the more you have to hand over to those who want to ride the gravy train. This country was founded on the premise of those in the village who did not work did not eat. Now they can eat for free under BO and the Socialist Dems

As an American who was raised and schooled in Augusta, I am shocked at what is a definitive Socialist bent that is going on in the U.S..I live in Germany one of those great social states-where socialized mediical care, social support and welfare, benefits keep getting cut but the taxes and contributions one is forced to pay keep going up. Each of these socalled Social Welfare States in Europe has massive problems trying to support their Social State. It doesn't work here..where the countries are small and the infrastructure is good. How will a Social State work in a country like ours, that spans a Continent, hell we can't even get a puny country like Iraq working, how are we going to pay for a social system, that has to be managed, across 50 States, and hundreds of layers of local bureaucrats, it can't be done on a National Level. There is no way it can be done. That is a reality. I have already voted, through my absentee ballot and I tell you right now it was for McCain. Compassion for the poor and helpless is something to commend the Democrats for (Let's Take it as gentlemen, at face value). But the socalist welfare state does not work-Look at Europe and see yourseleves

The wealthy flock to the Republican Party because of THEIR give-away programs; military contracts, tax breaks, subsidies, market protection, etc.

Maybe if employers paid decent wages based upon what workers did there would be no reason to "spread the wealth". Of course most of the posters this morning will agree that the CEO of a corporation deserves their (wasn't it $23 mil for 3 weeks work the wall street fat cat made) bonuses because afterall they are the actual workers in any company and they are always looking for ways to improve employee salary and benefits! By the way the income tax for a small businessman is determined after employee expenses and business deductions, therefore if employers gave workers a raise it would be 100 % deductible off schedule C. The employers personal taxes are determined after taking Sched C and all other deductions, therefore if they don,t want to share the wealth, then pay it in taxes.

There are wealthy people in the Democratic Party, Mr. Obama is not a poor man. Most people who have money are those who work hard, scrimp, have a little God Granted Luck, and make it. In either Party you will find people who are sucessful and people who are failures. The political system is like all other aspects of life those who have the where-with-all to suceed will also have the where-with-all to help formulate policies. I think that sucessful people prove every-day that they can make the sounder decisions. The diffrences between the Democrats and the Republicans is not one of money-never has been. It is of a two differing visions on the course that the US should develop towards. The Democrats wish for a centralized state, where social and economic growth is guided by the national government. The Republicans want as little governmental control as possible and believe that the nation will prosper and evolve better under independent compeition. The Republican option to me seems one that secures the individual freedoms of choice more than a command state would. Each strives to better the nation in their own way, but the communist states have all failed.

Beijing has been buying up US government debt, which has allowed the US to spend beyond its means.

It amazing all the code words people are using because they don"t like Obama. Socialism. We just had most costliest Socialism plan approved when we bailout the richest people in the world . Banks, insurance companies, wealthy investors, foriegn investors ,our communist investors in China(560 Billion),CEOs 20 million dollar bonus although the company went under. . Insurance companies who give you hell when you have a claim, but you have been paying them for twenty years. We all are going to paying for this (socialism) handout to the richest people in the world for the rest our lives. The middle class just paid to bailout the rich, reverse Socialism. I guess Socialism is Okay as long as it goes to the rich. Get Real we already have socialism for the rich.

Thank you Beijing for investing in America. You will find wealth and happiness here and soon will embrace the capitalist ideal of "anything is possible". I look forward to your maturing. When your country moves into the 21st century it will be a great ally.

What has driven down wages and ruined the economy? It wasn't the Republicans or the Democrats for that matter. It was a a hyper economy fueled by the greed of baby boomers. We all invested in various plans, 401Ks, Money Market, TSP, whatever wanting the best returns possible. All of us put money into Stocks and demanded the best payouts. Even when paying investors rapidly, would be detrimental to a companies sucess, this lead to cost controls, which lead to wage stagnation, and a reduction of benefits. It is easy to blame the Republicans (although where was the Democratic lead Congress?) The blame falls on us. You and Me and any one that demands a super quick return. It took the Stock Market 40 years to climb 5000 points but in the last 10 years it doubled, through our greed, and wanting to get rich quick. Capitalism is not to blame for this.. it is us we did it. We wanted the quick buck, we never really followed who was in charge of our money or how they were managing it-WE ARE TO BLAME! So of course every one is looking for the blame to be placed on some fat cat-CEO or GOP member-But really it was our own greed. We screwed up together-lets fix it together

Folks, you only have to go back to 1984 to see that was when the tax rate structure changed from 70 % max to 50% max.In 1984.a single person making over $85,130 was taxed at the rate of 50%.Before 1984 it was higher and in 1987,I believe,it was reduced to 38% max.Of course, there has always been manipulation with loop-holes but if you have had the benefit of educational opportunity or inherited wealth or even hard work, paying a little more for the opportunity to prosper in this great country in order to help the less fortunate shouldn't create such an outcry.

George bush has already went socialist. The government has bought into private banks. What is more socialist than that? LOL

The repubs just love China. Why? Because China is big business for American Companies. They can pay the Chinese pennies and by pass environment laws and even have children work 15 hour work days. Nevermind that China puts posion in childrens candy, asbestos in crayons, kills human rights activists, actively spies on American military and trys to steal corporate secrets.

That greed I was talking about before, lead those investment companies to do some really fancy financial manipulation, i.e. the reselling of worthless debt combined with valued debt. None of us complianed-The warnings were there in 2002-As long as our returns kept coming in with an increase we didn't question it. The Congress learned about it and did nothing, We talk about foreign countries buying up US debt at bargain prices, they have been doing that for years. Many US firms are now financed in large part from foreign investments. They have bought more not really to take over but to secure the billions if not trillions that they have already invested in our economy. As for the Bailout, The next time you use your credit card remember you are benefiting from the bailout too. If Citigroup goes under the entire Credit Card System of Payments will falter, and we won't be facing a possible recession but a depression. A lot of the floating debt in the economy comes from our usage and abusage of the Credit Card. Remember everytime you own on your card you increase not only your debt but the debt on the open market. Its not socialism in reverse, its saving whats left.

Here is the different, the rich are prospering and the middle class are going broke. Obama does not want to take from the middle class and give from the poor. He wants to stop the people who are already rich from getting all the breaks while people living on the edge cannot catch a break. That is the difference. I am sorry backwoods moralist hillbillies here fall so easily for scare tactics. I would recommend some of you read 1984, but most of you are probably not educated enough to comprehend it.
